Unusual but not weird names

My little girl is called Brie. Everyone looks at me with a weird face or ask me to say it again, but I don't mind, it suits her, it's a name we've always loved and it's different. Her middle name is a much more common name though

Nearly everyone I know has a Tom, Jack, Harry, Molly or Chloe.
Most of our friends are couples where each couple include one Paul, Lee, Claire or Rachel.

Jack is extremely popular. There were 3 in a group of 39 children, for nursery's sports day.

When DSis had her DC2 they had no name for several weeks after DC2 arrived, despite having known what sex the baby was for many months. They wanted something 'unusual' and 'old-fashioned'. After many suggestions were rejected, I suggested a family name that was nice but hardly ever used as a first name. DC2 was named. They got several comments along the lines of "Oh, we were saving that for our baby". It has since become a very popular first name. DN2 is one of the eldest with it.

A friend and her husband, both teachers, picked names that they liked that they did not know any children with the names. The girl's name was fairly unusual at the time but is now very popular.

What about naming her after the day of the week (s)he was born on?

I have heard of Adrian for a girl rather than Adrienne, I have no idea of the correct spelling though.

I heard it on an episode of Long Lost Family, and was a bit annoyed that the presenter was mispronouncing Adrienne, and then the woman's daughter called her Adrian too.

My girls all have traditional but unusual names. They are all the only ones in their school/nursery. None of them are shocking and everyone always comments how much they love their names. I have been teaching 15 years and I've only taught 2 kids with any of my children's names.

I won't say what they are as too outing but some ideas

Adrien is simply a male (French) form of Adrian, as far as I know. Is it an English girl's name?

Anyhow, Adrian just doesn't work for a girl imo. (Well, about as well as Hadrian...)

Oh, interesting. Adrian as a girl's name seems a bit like a spelling mistake to me personally... (Or like someone using Yves for a girl because it reminded them of Eve. Which really is rather unfortunate.)

I actually really like Hillary for a boy :) (Illarion and Illario are also lovely imo.)

I bought a car from a female Adrian and in the Rocky film Rocky's girlfriend is Adrian. Adrian Piper is a US artist.

It's much more common for boys in the UK bu can be used.

Meredith can also be a boys name as can Hillary.

We were looking for an unusual but recognisable girls name and it came down to Antonia or Sabrina. We went with Sabrina and I'm very happy about her name!

Is Adrian a girl's name (or unisex)? I've only ever met male Adrians (and female Adriennes/Adriannes), tbh...

Alexis nn Alex is a really cool unisex name imo. :)

OP, any name you see on here is unlikely to be unusual unless it is Balonz.
One exception might be a name that was recently on here - Vanessa.
I would look at a baby name book and pick ones you like then check them against the top 100, but also bearing in mind that some names are likely to be popular without being high in the list.
If the name is one of a current celebrity or newsreader or sportstar it could get quite popular very quickly.
Another thing is people can copy you, and your unusual name might also be given to your neighbour's 3 month younger child.

Girls names seem to have got more and more feminine over the last couple of decades so maybe go for something more gender neutral like Alex, River, Adrian or something that doesn't end in a vowel eg Frances or Winifred.

For boys, well I have only ever met one Rory and I'm a supply teacher so meet a lot of children.

I think some of the early kings names are due a revival, Harold or Edmund.

Where I am, I only know Graces who are in their very late teens and early 20s. It's a nice name, but to me it's now 20 years past the wave.

Olivia, Sophie and Isabella are not by any stretch of the imagination unusual names at the moment

It depends where you are though I guess.
I wouldn't say they are overly popular here, there's no Sophie's, 1 Olivia and 2 Isabella's in my child's nursery which has over 40 children and that's still a 4-6 year gap from now/a baby being born.

Every girl being born seems to be a Grace here atm.
