Dilemma: O'Surname but the only first name we like starts with O

Is it going to be really weird? It's the only name we both love. Been through all the baby name books. I can't say what the name is as it is too outing but think Orla O'Brian / Oscar O'Neill type thing. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and we know the sex so only 1 potential name.

Other option is to use my surname only rather than mine as second middle name then DH surname. But I'm worried DH family will be hurt if we don't use their surname at all. Help!

I went to school with a Brian O'Brien. THAT was weird. Everyone called him BobGrin

I don't think a first name beginning with O would be strange with an O' surname.

@NameChange30 I don't think O'Anything works as a second middle name (or even a surname listed first / double barrelled).

We gave our baby an O' surname as his second middle name - works great!

In answer to your question I think it's completely fine

Well I love it. Alliterative names are the BEST in my opinion. I'd actively choose one. They are individual and flow really well.

I think it's fine! It's actually more of a tongue twister if the name ends in O (I know a Leo O'Brien which is a bit tongue twisty!)

i have an O' surname, as do my dcs but when we write initials we always write O'S and first initial - so e.g PO'S..... so never just O on its own. We all love our O' surname - have whatever name you want!

OP, I'd guess they just put a dot in his initials to make them eyes.

DC will have both surnames with mine first. Then can choose which to use unofficially.

@AsAProfessionalFekko what do you mean? People at work think it's odd?

I dint see it as a problem. It goes well I think. Am also Irish and was going to mention Olivia O’Leary. Just don’t use a name beginning with X for a middle name! Grin

It could work if you dropped the O.

Like, instead of Oliver Jones O’Brien you could have Oliver Brien Jones or Oliver Brien-Jones.

I think it's fine. I'm also in Ireland so used to lots of O' surnames.

The Irish journalist & broadcaster Olivia O'Leary has got on just fine with her name and hers is very alliterative.

In Ireland the initials would be oon or oob. Definitely not a problem.

Both my children have AA initials but with different sounds, I think your examples above sound absolutely fine.
