Top girls names putting me off all list

I’m due in 2 weeks and have wanted a name for Dd not completely out there but just something that isn’t overly popular. Myself and dp have had a hard time agreeing on names but between us have a short list and agree to see when baby comes what we think. After reading the most popular names the majority we like is on there and I just didn’t want her having the same name as a lot of her friends etc. Names that are on dp and my list are - Ella, Harper, Maya, Indie, Elle, Amelia.

Has anyone any suggestions or think maybe these aren’t as popular? I live in Scotland and tbh don’t know any Harpers or Elle, 1 Indie, 1 Maya and I’m a teacher so maybe it isn’t as popular around here.

I like indie but would have it as a nickname for indigo Smile

I love all of your other choices! Grin

Love Darcy and Lyla! Considering Aria although know this is quite popular too

My list was similar to yours and I felt exactly like you did in terms of popularity.
We stalled on Lyla and both loved it. Our Lyla is as amazing as her name ! Never met another 1. In Scotland and everyone we meet likes her name.

How about Amelie instead of Amelia?

Indie is cute. Never met one of heard it before. How about using India on her birth certificate and then calling her Indie.
Just worried Indie may be a bit cutesy on a grown woman.

Clara is also unusual and pretty.

justanothersugar · 05/07/2018 16:20

Best of luck for the coming weeks! What about Amelie if you like Amelia?

MikeUniformMike · 05/07/2018 11:45

Could you use a Scottish name? There are some very pretty ones. Something like Ailidh?

RedBlu · 05/07/2018 11:33

The problem I have found, is we spent ages finding a nice girls name that wasn't in the top 100.

Now my pregnant colleague at work is expecting a girl and guess what name is top of her list?!

I would just got for whatever you like the most!

MrsClutterworth · 05/07/2018 11:13

I always thought Delta was a lovely name. And Darcey/Darcy or however you spell it lol!

Elllicam · 05/07/2018 11:07

We are in the west of Scotland and I know a lot of little Ella/Ellie/Maya/Mia/Mya’s. I also know one Harper and 2 Amelia’s under 5. I’ve never met an Indie.

Lilajuvel · 05/07/2018 11:03

Ella/Amelia/Maya are the most popular I have heard around from your list.

I actually haven't met a Harper or an Indie.

Mousefunky · 05/07/2018 11:00

Harper is just the Beckham’s. You would set yourself up for years of “oh like Harper Beckham?” Imo. Ella and Amelia are extremely common. I don’t hear many Maya’s, it is primarily Mia or Amelia. Don’t hear many Elle’s and I’ve never met an Indie.

user25017 · 05/07/2018 10:33

Thanks for all the suggestions. And the good lucks and congratulations Smile

I like Myla also but a friends dd is Myla so unfortunately we can’t use it! Lots to consider there!

Pp suggesting minette - that's lovely!

Baubletrouble43 · 05/07/2018 06:33

LOVE Maya. Like Ella. Not keen on Harper, smacks of some One trying to copy victoria Beckham tbh. Amelia is nice but I like the spelling Emilia shortened to Em or Emmy.

elQuintoConyo · 05/07/2018 06:11

Leonora (nn Leo very cool)
Lamorna
Isadora (nn Isa or Dora)
Elvira (the i could be pronounced eye or eee)
Minette
Sally

Congratulations Flowers

HJL2506 · 05/07/2018 06:04

I love Indie best from your list. Least common one too I'd say. If never met one and I've been to a tonne of baby groups with my son. Good luck!

youngestisapsycho · 03/07/2018 11:59

Myla is nice...

MariaMadita · 03/07/2018 11:53

I like Maya and Mya (but would pronounce them quite differently) :)

Suggestions:
Mia, Mila, Marise, Mina, Tilda, Nina, Cora, Clara, Alice, Morag, Margot, Lilian, Lotta, Leona, Greta, Daisy, Flora, Cleo, Eliana/e, Eloise, Elena, Eleanor (nn Elle/Ella), Heather, Sadie.

OliviaPopeRules · 03/07/2018 11:27

Any names from your family that might be unusual, like granny's/mum's maiden name that could be used as a first name?

OliviaPopeRules · 03/07/2018 11:26

Harper is v common, lots of people copying the Beckhams. If you want a name that isn't common I defo wouldn't choose it (+ it is awful!!)

MikeUniformMike · 03/07/2018 11:10

How about Morna?

catinboots9 · 03/07/2018 02:40

What about Piper? Would be my number one choice for a girl

mathanxiety · 03/07/2018 02:00

How about tweaking Maya to Amaya? Or changing to Moya.

Alternatives:
Mila
Willow, or Willa
Leah
Leila
Ellery
Lara
Holly, or Hollis
Flora
Cleo
Orla
Celia
Maeve

I’m trying to pick a name I like? We can’t agree on any names 100% and as I said I just didn’t notice the ones we had considered were so popular and don’t really want one that Dd will grow up with a lot of and possibly have friends of same name that’s all. If one was our favourite and the one for us I’d choose it in a heartbeat regardless of where it is rated. Merely looking for other suggestions as the ones we have thought about hasn’t clicked yet and other people have different opinions so could mention something we’ve never thought of. Lots of people don’t want a common name for their dc and just want other people’s take or view.

Not considered Piper. I’m not sure I’m too keen but thank you

If you like Harper would you consider Piper?
