Is Thomas boring?

Just that really. I've always like Thomas and i quite like Tom, though hate Tommy. But is Thomas boring?

DD has a rare name (given to 10 babies in total the year she was born) and I tend to prefer more uncommon names but keep coming back to Thomas

Thomas is a bit boring, yeah. However its a nice elegant, classic name. I think any child could be a Thomas. It's nice because it's not too popular but not unheard of. Theres also the Thomas the Tank Engine association which the child would probably love.

I ha e. DGS age 6 named Thomas. Lovely name but very boring and common/popular. .

I have one so obviously I love it. It's been my favourite male name since I was a teenager. Plus we have a very unusual (foreign with changed spelling) surname that no-one has ever heard of, so it helps to have a very simple first name like Tom/Thomas to compensate!

Very boring as its just everywhere and so middle of the road/safe. Not horrible, but nothing special either.

Yes, it's pretty much the definition of a boring name. I think even John is less boring (marginally) as there are not so many of them around these days.

Well, my name I Tom, and I like it - but it was rarer in 1970s,1980s than it is now.

Name is not actually Thomas, though - which I am pleased about.

I used to think it was but when my ds was born it just seemed right for him. He's not a boring child, just stolid, laid back and his sensible name suits him.

Definitely not, it's a beautiful name but then I am a tad biased!

It was in the top 5 boys names for something like 7 years and topped the table 3 times in the run up to DS being born, but there are 200+ children at his primary (he's now in y5) and in all that time there hasn't been a single other Thomas.

I love the name Thomas. DS 2 is Rafe Thomas and we would have had it as a first name except his cousin is Thomas.

FWIW I have never come across another Thomas and my children are 12 and 8.

To me it is. I'm a teacher in secondary and each year group has several Thomas/Toms (so are usually referred to by surnames). The majority of DH's friends are called Tom. Several of my friends have husband/partners called Tom. I have a few friends with sons called Thomas. I don't know whether I'm in a particulaly Thomas/Tom-heavy area or whether it's this popular everywhere but I would never choose it personally.

I have a Tom. He's the only one is his year at school. There are 4 Max’s, 2 Archie's and 2 Raphael. It's probably so boring now that fewer people are using it so it's becoming rarer!

I think it’s a good solid name, but yes a little boring. Currently expecting ds and I think he will be a Thomas. I think people forget that they are naming a man, not a baby, and than man could grow up to be anything in their professional life. It’s all very well having Arlos and Oscars but often there will end up being millions of them at the same age group anyway. I’ve come across far more little Arlos, Noah’s, etc than Toms.

No. Its strong, classic and timeless. Its good for child and adult. There are a lot of awfully dated names of an era already (sorry josh, Alfie, noah). Thomas could be any century and any age now.

I have a Thomas. He's mostly a Tom. Never a Tommy. It's a family name. He's the only one in his school which surprised me
