What are your opinions on the name Hayden Elliot?

Hi,

Our little boy is almost 2 weeks old. I think we've finally decided on Hayden Elliot, but we are just after some last minute opinions, etc.

I like Hayden and I like Elliott.
Hayden or Haydn is a long standing Welsh name - not made up or chavy at all. It's probably been used as a name for 100s of years.
Jayden and Brayden are more modern made up names and not really to my taste. Hayden is not in that category at all though for anyone who actually knows anything about the name.

Hayden is okay - good friend of mine is called Haydn, I think that must be the Welsh spelling.

There was a thread a while ago about which current names will be the Sharon/Tracy/Darren of the future. Hayden is in that category. Sorry. I think Elliot also goes in that direction, tbh, although it's been around for longer (I had a school contemporary called it).

I think I'm going against the grain of most people here but I like Hayden (but dislike Elliott)!

I also like Aidan.

I think it’s a lovely name and if you like it then go for it.

And Hayden is neither chavvy nor made up, it’s a legitimate first and surname.

Some people on here really are insufferable snobs.

OP, Hayden Elliot is fine.

Hayden is a perfectly normal surname and while I'm in general not mad on surnames as first names there's nothing wrong with it.

Calling a name 'chavvy' is offensive, and referring to a name as a 'naughty boy name' is almost as bad.

Elliot is beautiful and I think it would be much better the other way round: Elliot Hayden.

Hayden is dreadful sorry. Hayd for short. Just no.
Eliot is OK as a middle name but a bit of a baby name IMO.

The Hayden's I know are all 10-12 years old and none of them are chavvy FFS! I don't know any little ones. It's nice OP and if you both love it just go for it and do not be swayed by MN!

Hayden fine but prefer Aidan - bit stronger and more traditional IMO.

I once knew of a 'posh' Hayden, he pronounced it 'Hi-den'.

I'm really surprised people see Hayden as 'chavvy' or like a 'made up name'
My Grandad was called Hayden, he was born in 1910, I thought it was a traditional Welsh name Hmm

Agree with all the people who think Hayden sounds chavvy.
Elliott is much better but still not really my cup of tea since every Elliott I've ever known has given the name negative connotations (but that's only my experience obviously)

You've chosen the name and you now want opinions on it. Have you not learned anything from all the other name threads where other parents have been disappointed by reactions to their chosen name?

Love Elliot. Personally I don’t like the name Hayden but it doesn’t have negative connotations for me; the only one I know is lovely and he’s a 40 year old handyman from New Zealand.

OP the name Hayden comes with just a wee bit of cultural baggage.
Have you read this, as one example: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayden_(given_name)

If you are happy about that, then well and good.

I don't wish to be critical, but Ellliott (however spelled) is a surname. For many years, people have given surnames as first and second names, normally (at least in Scotland) to demonstrate family connections. Again, if you are happy with that, then I have no comment.

Hayden sounds a bit Chavy to me.
Elliot is a fantastic end underused name, really lovely.

There is a school called Haydon near where I grew up, it was so rough.
Any trouble was always caused by Haydon lads.

Maybe it is the name!?

Do you know of any 'nice' Haydon/Haydens?

Names often come with connotations. You asked for opinions so it should be ok to point out that a lot of people will hear Hayden and think “chavvy”. You can then go and disprove those prejudices (should you want to).

How about reversing the names? Elliott Hayden? (Elliott is not my personal cup of tea either but you’d probably hate my favourite names!)

Lucky you are not in one of those countries where the municipal authorities will name your child if you haven’t picked a name within 15 days! :)
