What are your opinions on India for a girl?

I know a child called Tokyo as she was conceived there! The child's grandparents weren't impressed at all!

Each to their own - don't dislike India or find it offensive but would personally choose geographical locations of conception as names.

Still at least not conceived on a weekend in Huddersfield or Barnsley - could always be worse!

My 3 yo dd is an India and we love it 😃 We have visited there, and she was conceived there, but I don't feel it matters if you love it. Ignore the naysayers. Expecting our 2nd child in a couple of weeks and keeping his name quiet until he's here. People find it alot harder to bitch about a name when the baby is actually here :-)
As for finding it offensive, I find that hilarious.

If you're British, to name a child after a country exploited by the British, with all the connotations of the British Raj, because of its "exotic otherness" is just not on. Why name a child India? Would you name a child Pakistan - that was part of India once? If not, why not? How about Jamaica? Or Africa? Would people in India name their children Britannia? If it's just the sound of the word you like, pick something else.

I think it was very 'in' and now not so much which is good because there probs won't be any one else in her class with that name. It reminds me of Katie Hopkins and that classic interview on This Morning where she was slagging off people who name their children after places only for Holly to point out her daughter is called India Grin comedy gold right there

I think it’s a lovely name. India Hicks is named for the country her mother loved so much.
