Which of these do you prefer and which work with Sebastian?

Our surname is Wheeler.

Thanks!

Sebastian and Charles, perfect for any Brideshead fan!

Wouldn't go for Ralph, because of the pronunciation issues.

Don't like Hugh or Hugo
I like Monty, but it is only acceptable as a nickname, and the longer versions are perhaps a bit pretentious.
Hate Jensen.

With Xavier you could also have pronunciation issues.

Sebastian and Gregory
Sebastian and Christopher
Sebastian and Jerome
Sebastian and Thaddeus
Sebastian and Magnus
Sebastian and Torin
Sebastian and Darius
Sebastian and Gerard

Ooh lots of good alternatives!

Rupert, Francis and Alexander are already names we have in the family.

DH has vetoed Ernie due to Sesame St. He isnt big on Scottish names so rulea out a lot like Angus, Alastair etc.

What about Alastair? My favourite boys name that I was never allowed to use. Seb and Al would be cool teenagers.

Charliebob1337 · 01/07/2018 09:32

I love Monty and even though you haven't mentioned it also Ernie/Ernest.

kaytee87 · 29/06/2018 18:38

What about Christian?

AnnaNimmity · 29/06/2018 18:36

oh go for Felix. Or Gabriel.

I wasn't allowed those by my dh

(also like Ivo and Orlando, but for some reason he vetoed those too..)

JayeAshe · 29/06/2018 18:34

Have you considered Jago ?

throwcushions · 29/06/2018 18:30

Monty and Hugh don't flow well with your surname.

Arthur Wheeler sounds like an Eastenders character to me unfortunately. I don't like the way it sounds.

Ralph pronounced Rafe is very nice, goes well with Sebastian (especially if he is nicknamed Seb) and with Wheeler.

I like Francis Wheeler and Alexander Wheeler. Not keen on Xavier as it doesn't sound right with Wheeler but you could use Xander as a nickname for Alexander.

househunthappening · 29/06/2018 09:14

Hugh, I've got one! It was a mumsnet suggestion!

We also liked Hugo but thought it might be a bit pretentious and he might not like it if he didn't turn out to fit that stereotype (I know, I know, it shouldn't matter but we didn't want to look back and wish we'd chosen something less 'statementy' for him).

So Hugh was a sort of middle ground, it wasn't at the top of our list of names but I absolutely love it.

catinboots9 · 29/06/2018 09:05

Arthur is lovely and can be shortened to Arty

catinboots9 · 29/06/2018 09:04

I love Guy, Hugo or Austin.

Crispin is truly dreadful.

JessambardKingdomBrunel · 29/06/2018 09:03

And it definitely goes with your surname - it has the same flow as Arthur Fowler

JessambardKingdomBrunel · 29/06/2018 09:03

Love Arthur

HJL2506 · 29/06/2018 09:01

I LOVE Arthur. It's my sons middle name!

HJL2506 · 29/06/2018 08:57

I love the name Monty. My rabbit is called Monty (not trying to put you off at all) I love the name and it's not a rabbits name.

I love this name best from your list 😬

Almondbiscotti · 29/06/2018 08:48

I do like Julian but read somewhere about kids picking on the name for it being Julie and Ann.

What are everyones thoughts on Arthur? Does that go with Sebastian and our surname Wheeler?

Petalflowers · 29/06/2018 07:02

Xavier is good and goes well. Julian is a good suggestion also and matches Sebastian.

Other suggestions-
Tobias
Maximilian (max)
Milo
Crispin
Rupert

I know a grown up Guy. Believe or not, he was a baby once.

OkPedro · 29/06/2018 01:43

literary a penis named Ralph BlushGrin

I agree I wouldn't ask mn re baby names

If you like it, use it

LiteraryDevil1 · 29/06/2018 01:31

@OkPedro I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes HmmConfused at some of the names in these threads. I always imagine these children to be living in London, attending posh schools, and generally being very pretentious and annoying like their parents.

Ralph is the name given to a character's penis in the book Forever by Judy Blume.

Hugo, Hugh and Monty are pretentious names

I'm not even going there with Jensen but you've got from pretentious to chav in one quick step.

My advice is not to ask MN about names because you'll get so many split opinions and they won't necessarily help.

BrendasUmbrella · 29/06/2018 01:26

What do you think of "Austin"? Someone suggested it, I think it would go very wheel with your name and his db's name.

OkPedro · 29/06/2018 01:05

Also do you pronounce the Hiatch in hugh? Hmm would he be called Ugh by some people? Wink sorry!

OkPedro · 29/06/2018 01:02

Surely you can't saddle a child with the name Guy?!

I feel like I live in a parallel universe when I read baby name threads on mn

Ralph and monty are both characters in the Simpson's Grin

TheVanguardSix · 29/06/2018 00:55

Not Xavier.
Not Sebastian.
Hugh is very cool (not Hugo)
I actually like Jenson but yes, it’ll become thrown into the Harrison-Jaxon-Maddison camp.

Theo(dore)?
Guy?
Julian?

I really, really like Hugh.

TroubledLichen · 29/06/2018 00:51

Love Ralph (don’t pronounce it Rafe), Hugh is also very nice.
