I nearly used Elva and wish I had

mathanxiety · 05/07/2018 09:41

Would you consider the Irish name Alvy instead?

I know two of them, born late 60s. It's an anglicisation of Ailbhe.

TwinkleToes86 · 03/07/2018 23:13

Elvis, Elf and Evie all merged into one. Not a nice name.

bringbackfonzi · 03/07/2018 21:34

I find Elvie very sweet as a nickname for Elvira. On its own, not so much.

Sessy19 · 03/07/2018 20:38

I knew an Elfie...nn for Eleanora. She was small, cute and blonde. And a really sweet person.

MariaMadita · 03/07/2018 16:09

Elvie is a cute nickname:)

Could be short for Alva or Elvira.

CaptainCabinets · 03/07/2018 08:23

It’s cute but the four (!!) Elvies I know are short for Elvina. It’s a very popular traveller name where I live.

LastGirlsFinishNice · 30/06/2018 10:19

Totally read it as Evie and was coming to comment on its popularity.... she would definitely have that problem

brizzledrizzle · 30/06/2018 07:44

It'll seem rather odd to be called Elfie if she turns out to be of Amazonian stature as an adult.

Joeybee · 30/06/2018 07:40

I'm not a fan. It sounds like a nickname, rather than a name in its own right. It's way too cutesy too. I could see it on a pet, but not on a child. Sorry. It's a fab nickname for Elvira or something.

I clicked on the thread before I saw it is in 'baby names'. I was hoping for feedback on the pelvic toner! sorry!

Stinkbomb · 29/06/2018 22:45

LV - insurance company

TheVanguardSix · 29/06/2018 22:44

Elfie = Elfreda

Elvie could be the diminutive of Elvira

JumpingFrogs · 29/06/2018 22:42

Eels

butlerswharf · 29/06/2018 22:29

I think of only Elvis. I love Evie though.

BellaJessica · 29/06/2018 22:21

Wait no i think hos name was EB actually. Sounded similar in my head.

BellaJessica · 29/06/2018 22:20

LV the rabbit on Hop comes to mind

WineGummyBear · 29/06/2018 22:20

Pelvic toner to me I'm afraid.

dingdongdigeridoo · 29/06/2018 22:19

Elvira reminds me of the mistress of the dark. But I guess that’s a pretty obscure film.

dingdongdigeridoo · 29/06/2018 22:17

It’s cute but a bit awkward. It sort of looks like a misspelling. Also, makes me think of elves from lord of the rings or some fantasy series!

Enidblyton1 · 29/06/2018 14:33

Elvira is one of my favourite names - Elvie could be a great nickname for that. Fine in its own right too, but I definitely prefer it as a nickname.

RavenWings · 29/06/2018 14:28

Elvie as a nickname for Elvira is fine, Elvie by itself is not. I love Elvira, beautiful name.

ScrambledSmegs · 29/06/2018 14:08

If I say it out loud it sounds like LV, the insurance company.

Elfie or Effie are similar.

PippilottaLongstocking · 29/06/2018 14:05

It’s nice but sounds like you mixed up Evie and Elfie so you might get people accidentally calling her either of those but if that doesn’t bother you then go for it! I know an Elfie (Elfrida) and I think it’s lovely and Elvie is not much different
