North?

Ok so we are still coming up with names. We are in our 2nd trimester now so we've still got a while to finalize our choices.

A name we've found that we like too is North. Just to be clear, absolutely no connection to Kim Kardashian whatsoever. Can't personally stand her, but I really like the name and the nn 'Nori'.

Would love to hear your opinions if that's alright :)

Well nothing is a name until you use it (as @ErrantBakedBean pointed out). Daisy is a flower, as is rose etc. It's not our top choice for a name, I really just wanted your opinions on it. And fair enough if that is the general consensus.

Our top choices for girls names are still River, Cora and Clara. For a boy, Leo (Leonardo?) Sam/Samuel and Conner.

Regardless, thank you for your opinions. I know I shouldn't care about what other people think, but I do. I want to pick a name that other people like also. Also, personally I'm not really a fan of Nora. Thank you :)

What about Norris? It means Northerner or Norseman and can be shortened to Norrie.

Reminds me of Norris McWhirter from the Guinness Book of Records tv show.

Barely anyone wouldn’t link this to Kim K. I think hers was made more ridiculous with the surname but it’s still a very silly non-name.

It's up to you what you call your child....but everyone on the planet would associate it with KK and Kanye and how many times would you have to say it's nothing to do with them and that your not fans....I'm betting millions of times! Think it would wear thin after about a week.

Honestly I think it's a terrible name. Also people will just assume you've got your inspiration from the Kardashians, even if you say otherwise.

I don't keep up with the Kardashian's. Googled "North as first name". First two links were to baby name websites, after that related to Kardashian.

I'm not keen anyway - although it has been used as a first name I just associate it with a direction.

In Scotland Norrie is short for Norman. Baaad old man name. Big big no to North!

It’s a terrible name. Only a celebrity can get away with that sort of bollocks.

If you like Nori then use Nora or something else to give the same nn

I know a 24 year old man called North so I don’t necessarily associate it to the Kardashian’s, however he does and hates it.

I actually really like the nn Nori though

I’m sure you happened to come up with North Pole with Nori as a nn with no reference to KK.

North Pole and Wind are dreadful names anyway.

If you dislike the Kardashians you’d stay away from so distinctive a name to avoid association.

Kardashian’s sorry. Maybe subconsciously you’ve liked it when you’ve heard Kim call her daughter North and Northie. Nori makes me think of knorring. I dislike it. It’s just as bad as dream, true etc.

I know nothing about the Kardashian, as I can't be arsed to pay them any attention.

However, to me North isn't a name at all. It is a direction, a compass point.

Sorry, but I agree that it is ridiculous, and if I heard it I would wonder what the hell the parents could possibly have been thinking.

• Same “name” as KK
• Same nickname as KK (Confused) despite KK not being the connection
• It’s not really a name, it’s just a random word. Like chair or gazebo.
• Would you like to be called it? Right now, at this juncture in your life?

By all means name your child this if you think it’s a name that is going to:

• grow with her to adulthood
• not give the bullies any fodder during school years
• allow her to be taken seriously in her professional / adult life
