What are the most overused baby names you know at the moment?

Trying to decide on a name for DC2 at the moment and would like something that won't seem "dated" in so many years to come.

There's a few names I keep hearing pop up at baby groups etc that feel a bit "faddy" and "of the moment" and would like to avoid that if possible. Hoping to avoid a name that becomes the Tracey, Sharon, David or Gary etc of this generation.

I've noticed a lot of names hyphenated with Rose, (which is an absolutely beautiful name) but kind of has the shine taken off it when its so overused in various combinations.

What names make you think "oh, not another one!?"

My sister gas a nursery school in the SW and has 4 Eleanors who are all known as Ellie.

Re Henry it's very used and popular but not in a faddy 'of the moment way'- it's just a consistently strong and traditional boys name that stays in fashion through the decades. This applies to a lot of names.

South west here. Can't move for baby 'Ava's

Both DC have got loads of Olivers in there year groups, I think in year 5 it's something silly like 6 of them?!

Other names I hear a hell of a lot are Ellie/Ella/Elsie

Caiden/kaiden/kayden there are loads of them here. Archie and William are also very common as is Flynn/Finn.

For girls Freya, Amelia and Charlotte are all very common there are quite a few Hannah's.

I think there is a difference between names - particularly boys' names - which have been very popular for literally hundreds of years - like Jack and William - and which are very common today, and those which have only become very popular in the last few years - like Oscar, Noah, Ezra, Finn and Theo. The latter group are the ones which are going to date; the former group, not so much.

I agree that regions must vary at lot. The top 100 doesn't seem very representative of my area, I was quite surprised by a few on there

Goodness, Blue I never knew that about Amelia but I googled it and you’re right.
I think there are definite regional differences. Lots of Lily May and Lily Roses round here, and a few Amelias, but no Ruperts or Florences for example, that I know of.

Ava, Eva, Evie - either on their own or hyphenated with Grace, Rose or May. There are hundreds of Esmes at my DS's school as well (plus one Ezmae).

I don’t think those lists are always representative of areas though fur for example I have never met an Olivia at baby group but have met 3 Harpers.

Flower names - Poppy, Lily, Violet, Daisy. Evie/Ava. Amelie. Amelia. Lottie. Something-Mae. There’s three ‘Nevaeh’s at my friend’s school - and I bet their mums thought they were being super-original, bless them. Mia/Maia. Oscar. Harrison. Toby. Ashton.

Just look at the top baby names and there all in there, but locally I know a few Isaacs and lots of Theo's and Jacks.
