I went to see Zulu Shakespeare once (don't do it, it went on forever) I liked the way they pronounced it - say-ZAR!

The é makes an ay sound. So if you see then pronunciation see-zer don't spell is César as that would be 'say-zer'.

You need to be sure how letters are pronounced before using them!

It would be odd to use a spelling with an accent for no apparent reason. But if you do, definitely get the accent the right way round Wink

I would mentally add “...Mr Dog” to it every time I said it.

If that kind of thing would bother you, don’t use it. The Caesar/Mr Dog association is pretty strong.

So you think the name is after the dog food? I always assumed the name was first then the dog food ConfusedGrin someone's been brainwashed by adverts!

I know how to pronounce the name I was asking how to pronounce the different ways it was spelled as google wasn't bringing up much help.

I have maltese/Irish background and Maltese surname so it wouldn't sound out of place.

not sure where he is from - he has a European accent

I quite like the name but I would got with cesar the cat food.

Cesare is pronounced Chez-ah-ray in Italian. Not an uncommon name in Italy but will be mispronounced in UK and makes no sense unless you are Italian. Which I’m guessing you’re not.

My Spanish nephew is César (pronounced thes-ar). It's fairly commonplace here. I think it's a nice name, but maybe a bit weird if you don't have a Spanish connection?

You can swear, but MN draw the line on name-calling.
