Help! We have agreed that these names are good for both of us...I'd really appreciate some honest feedback and mumsnet is as honest as it gets! Which are useable and what are the pitfalls? I've already asked about Vera but it's a real contender so it's on the list...

Phaedra is absolutely super.

I had a schoolfriend with this name and have loved it ever since.

My least favourites are Vera Keziah Marla, to me they sound ugly and harsh.

I love your list. Keziah is my favourite, I prefer the Kezia spelling but if you are wanting it pronounces Kez-eye-ah as opposed to Kez-ee-ah then I'd go for your spelling as it's quite phonetic so shouldn't be too many problems with pronunciation. My friend has a teenage Kezia who goes by kezzie which I think is sweet.

Phaedra sounds bloody awful.
Vera Duckworth for me too, so no.
Dinah (definitely dy-nah, not dee-na btw) is ok.
Keziah is ok.
Prefer Malia (prn. Mah-lia) to Marla
Thalia is lovely prn. Tah-lia

Dina is Dee-na but Dinah is Di-nah (like Diana but without the first a)

Paranoixia I think Dinah would be pronounced dee-nuh rather than dy-nuh ...?

I only say this because I know someone who's name is spelled Dina and pronounced dee-nuh

I could be wrong though. If it's pronounced dy-nuh then I dislike it just as much as the rest unfortunately. I would also think of an American diner.

I really like Thalia, and considered it when I was pregnant. Decided against it because I was concerned that there were too many ways it could be mispronounced, and thought that might get annoying after a while (personally I would pronounce it tah-lia).

I also have a soft spot for Vera, and Keziah would probably grow on me if I knew one in real life.

Vera - I think it's beautiful. No one her age will have even heard of Vera Duckworth. To me, Vera calls to mind Vera Brittain, who got into Oxford in the 1910s, when hardly any women even went to university (and her own father didn't want her to), and then just a year in decided to train as a nurse so she could serve in WW1 army hospitals in France. She was a feminist and a humanist, and I can't think of a better role model for a little girl. Vera Brittain is of course also the writer of the spectacular A Testament of Youth. In addition to all that, I think it's a beautiful sounding name.

Keziah - I like this name, though I prefer it spelt Kezia

Phaedra - no, sorry

Thalia - like it (if it's pronounced Tally-a, I don't like Tar-lay) though I think Talia is a nicer spelling

Marla - not a huge fan

Dinah - Worst on the list, in my opinion it just sounds like an American diner to me. It doesn't sound like a name.

I think Thalia is lovely , and Dinah is OK. I'm not keen on the others personally, but: your baby, give her the name you love!

Phaedra is nice but a braver choice - spelling? pronunciation?
The rest. Not in the same league.

I never know how to pronounce Keziah. Is it Kay-zia? Kez-eye-a? Something else?
