What do we think? I think it's classic and beautiful, my friend thinks it's boring and 'old', DP likes it. We would use it regardless of what my friend thinks but wondered what the general consensus was!

Love this name! I really recommend naming your child this. Beautiful and elegant. Timeless

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 19:39

This is how I say it! But in a woman's voice of course.

I hate Maria. It's so boring and sounds rubbish in English.

I love Martha and Mhairi, but can't stand Maria.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 20/06/2018 18:48

Ah, we didn't have that association! At least it would help DSD accept her new half-siblingWink

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 18:43

black cute but DSD is too much in to super Mario for it to not sound silly!

mike don't encourage it DH would probably be happy with that! Grin

In that case, it would have to be Mario, which was also on my list. Smile

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2018 18:41

You could call him Jose Maria.

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 18:39

Bet it's a boy after all of this and falling in love with the name Grin

Hi OP. I knew a Maria at school. She was a nice girl. Totally unconnected to that, (although if she hadn't been nice it would have put me off the name), Maria was on my shortlist for girls. I think it is a classic name, timeless, trips off the tongue, individual but not 'out there', and not overused. For me, it has to be pronounced Mar- ee-a, not Mar-i-a. I like the song Maria too! I had Rosa for the same reasons.

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2018 18:13

I like it.

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 18:13

shmoo Mariana makes me think of the Mariana Trench and then that makes me think of the dark web. I'm a cyber geek Grin

Don't like Maria-agree with yr friend sounds old and boring. Don't like Mia always gets pronounced mya and sounds a nothing naff name. Sorry but u did ask.

ShmooBooMoo · 20/06/2018 18:11

Lovely an timeless. Also like Mariana (Mar-ee-anna). Michael is a nice classic boy's name.

TheLuckDragon · 20/06/2018 18:05

Thank you ohbaby, I've always been told it's a beautiful name but I think it just doesn't suit me. I'm in the minority clearly!

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 18:03

My English grammar is good as I studied it hard but I have a very strong accent so when I say it the r is VERY rolled. DH is from the Black Country so not quite so elegant.

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 18:02

luck maybe it's more popular in a different part of Europe which is why me and your dad have similar tastes Wink for what it's worth I think you have a lovely name and by the looks of things so does everyone else!

daisypond · 20/06/2018 18:02

Mar-EE-ah is nice too, especially if you're Spanish.

TheLuckDragon · 20/06/2018 18:01

I don't know, I just don't like it. Part of it is that it's clunky and it always seemed like a middle aged lady's name while I was growing up. Although I did like being the only one in the whole school with that name! My dad is Italian and I still don't like it 😂

Yogagirl123 · 20/06/2018 18:01

Very nice OP I like it, timeless name.

joeytribbiani · 20/06/2018 18:00

Def classic

Love it

My little sis - well she's 26 is called that and she loves it

Go for it

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 18:00

daisy not a big fan of the Mariah pronunciation, we rather like Mar-ee-a
