Maria

What do we think? I think it's classic and beautiful, my friend thinks it's boring and 'old', DP likes it. We would use it regardless of what my friend thinks but wondered what the general consensus was!

One of the best people I’ve met is a Maria. It’s lovely.

harrietm87 · 23/06/2018 17:04

Love love love it!

furandchandeliers · 23/06/2018 16:00

I love it Grin

LoveInTokyo · 23/06/2018 15:58

Classic and beautiful.

(And 100x better than Mia, which has become bland and blah through overuse.)

ladycarlotta · 21/06/2018 11:27

I love Maria either way it's pronounced. Very elegant.

StrawberryCat · 21/06/2018 09:48

Beautiful name!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/06/2018 09:27

❤️ Maria, beautiful !

LinoleumBlownapart · 21/06/2018 03:00

It's a classic. I know one Maria in England and it suits her. I'm a bit Maria'd out though as I know about 100 Marias, but I live in South America Grin

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 21/06/2018 00:07

That's the one I meant Halebeke, the West Side Story one. I don't think the OP will go for Bernardo though.

slovenlys · 20/06/2018 22:54

Love it.

Sophronia · 20/06/2018 22:49

It’s lovely.

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2018 22:20

I think you might get Mahr-ya too. Ma-rye-a is the English pronunciation but is seldom used now. Other than in Twelfth Night and Black Maria.

NewName54321 · 20/06/2018 22:16

A unique name that doesn't raise eyebrows and is easy to pronounce.

I've met people with three different ways of pronouncing Maria:

Ma-ree-a (this seems to be the modern default version)
Ma-rye-a
Marr-ree-a

Show me the way to Amarillo

Un dos tres Maria

MarciaClark · 20/06/2018 19:58

Lovely name

Halebeke425 · 20/06/2018 19:57

We were thinking of this name if ds had been DD! I think it is beautiful, classic but also quite unusual these days what with all the Mias and Myas you get now. I normally go for more unusual names so this is quite traditional for me. Dp's only issue was that I would constantly be singing "Maria, I just met a girl named Mariaaaaa!" all the time Grin I love that there are lots of songs with the name Maria in to serenade her with!

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 19:55

mike absolutely! I'm in love with this name.

It was on our shortlist but I decided it was too religious.
Other names on our list were
Megan
May
Rose
Anna
Olivia
Natasha

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2018 19:54

Quite a few songs about her, not just Blondie.

sherazade · 20/06/2018 19:50

My dds name - we both love it

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 20/06/2018 19:48

I don't know how I'd forgotten about the Blondie song too. I meant the original Maria song. It's a perfect name for an Anglo-Spanish family.

The Haters Gonna Hate Grin

LovelyBranches · 20/06/2018 19:47

Beautiful name. It would sound lovely with a three syllable + surname

Bananalanacake · 20/06/2018 19:45

I Love It.

OhBabyNoName · 20/06/2018 19:43

I think Martha is much more frumpy than Maria! Blonde is too cool to write a song about a frumpy name Grin

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2018 19:42

It doesn't sound rubbish. I think Martha is a bit frumpy and I still don't know how to say Mhairi (Vahry/Mahri?). At least Maria is a classic name that's pronounceable in many parts of the world.
