Boys named Finn

I'm having a disagreement with boyfriend about how common the name Finn actually is - he seems to think it is really common and this is a reason to discount it.

This is the only name both of us quite like other than Leo which we can't use as it would sound a bit ridiculous paired with very near aged cousin Theo. (also too many Leo's about I think)

How many Finns do you know? I've met 2 in my life ever. Are there really loads of Baby Finns being popped out in 2018?

Any other boy name suggestions welcome, surname isn't 100% settled but will begin with either V or A.

I really prefer Leo. I just think Finn's a bit...cheesy, like you're trying to be wannabe cool/Australian surfer from 20 years ago. Having said that, I don't know any of either name.

London

Finn, Finnian, Fingal, Finbar, Finley, Phinneas - he's right there loads around.

Fewer Flynns ime.

Panda368 · 19/06/2018 18:40

We live about 5 min walk from cousin Theo and they are going to be so close in age Leo just isn't workable. Plus I'm sure almost every other baby or toddler seems to be called Leo up here in the North West.
The people who are saying they know all the Finns where are you in the country?

I still like it mostly because it's nice and simple. Definitely wouldn't be trying the lengthen into a Finley or anything.

Boyfriend still needs convincing but his suggestions have been less than helpful:
Jean-Luc -(as in startrek)
Vinny - (to go with with his V surname ) Biscuit

I know 1 Finlay in DDs reception class

pinkhorse · 19/06/2018 18:30

I know 3 Finns.

Chottie · 19/06/2018 18:06

I know three Finns, 2 Finleys and 1 Finnian

foxtiger · 19/06/2018 18:01

I know one "just" Finn, who is about 16 and extremely cool and likeable. (No, he's not mine and I'm not biased!) I know of another Finn of about the same age - son of an online contact. And two Fin-short-for-Finlays, one probably about 16 too (I haven't heard anything about him for a long time) and one about 6.

RaininSummer · 19/06/2018 17:43

I know one, who is a Finnian.

183 Finns were born in Scotland last year making it the 26th most popular boys name.

I know a few of various ages. I think it's a good name.

ShirleyWilliams · 19/06/2018 17:37

I've met one, with a sister called Millie.

A six year old and 8 year old.

TroysMammy · 19/06/2018 17:30

I know one but it's his surname.

chipsandgin · 19/06/2018 17:29

I know one grown up Finn and another Phin and around 5 teenagers called Finn (or Finlay). Was very popular in the early noughties. Leo is lovely - I don’t see the cousin issue (unless you live together?).

MsRinky · 19/06/2018 17:29

My childhood dog was called Finn, he was lovely. I know at least a dozen aged between 5 and 15. My friend teaches primary and she had three in her class last year.

applesauce1 · 19/06/2018 17:28

I'm a teacher, and know many. It's one of the most popular boys' names in my school.

PatchworkElmer · 19/06/2018 17:26

I know 3- 2 are toddlers, 1 is a teenager.

cornishmumtobe · 19/06/2018 17:24

Stormwhale · 19/06/2018 17:23

I know two Finns, both short for Finley. Both are quiet sweet boys.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 19/06/2018 17:21

Finbar

magicfrog · 19/06/2018 17:20

I know of 5 under 4 but I still think it's a lovely name. If you like it, use it!

jigster01 · 19/06/2018 17:19

We have a finlay (fin) don't know any others ..19yrs old

AgentCooper · 19/06/2018 17:16

I know three, plus a Flynn and a Finlay. They're all lovely boys but I do find it a wee bit overdone now (sorry).

TheHobbitMum · 19/06/2018 17:14

When we called DS1 (Findley) there wasn't any Fins around but now there are quite a few although there are a few Leo's too. DS1 has left school and has chosen the nickname Nif Hmm

mintich · 19/06/2018 17:10

I know one Finn, (and countless Leos!)
