Boys named Finn

I'm having a disagreement with boyfriend about how common the name Finn actually is - he seems to think it is really common and this is a reason to discount it.

This is the only name both of us quite like other than Leo which we can't use as it would sound a bit ridiculous paired with very near aged cousin Theo. (also too many Leo's about I think)

How many Finns do you know? I've met 2 in my life ever. Are there really loads of Baby Finns being popped out in 2018?

Any other boy name suggestions welcome, surname isn't 100% settled but will begin with either V or A.

I work with children and have come across a LOT of kids named Finn or Finlay/Finley but nn Fin, of both teenage and primary school age. There is also one at my DD's (small) preschool.

In Scotland and know 1 Finn (mine). His nursery (large in city centre) had never had a Finn before him so I don't think it's particularly overused.

I know a couple of Finns they were born to slightly hippyish parents and trotted about in wellies in summer because they wanted too the oldest finn i know is 18 .

I know only a singular Flynn but no Finns, but a handful of Leos!

I’m in London and there are lots of Finlays /Finbars here. All known as Fin or Finn. They are all around the 10-13 age group but to be honest I don’t know many babies to know if it is still super popular,

I know 3 Finns but honestly about 16 Finlays (or variant spelling).

I’m in Scotland though which is Finlay-Central

I think Finlay/Finbar/Fintan, etc, are nicer than Finn. Finn is OK as a nickname.

In Australia there are 1000’s around at the moment. Tailing off a bit in 2018 because even Blind Freddie can see it’s been overused in the last 8 years.

I wouldnt care a jot if there was a cousin with a rhyming name to Leo.

Leo wasn't even in the top 50 when I chose it and I still haven't met any others. I only know one Finn, he's ten I think.

As always, there are regional differences in popularity. We have a Finlay, nn Fin, born in the mid 00s. We don’t know any others locally, even though I know it is not an uncommon choice.

Our DD has a VERY common name- was at #1 for years. But she says there is only one other in her year at school and a couple of others in different year groups.

I know a 10 year old Finn and knew a Finley who would not be about 8.

I wouldn't worry about the Leo / Theo thing. They're different ages, will likely go to different school and have different friendship groups? Also is Theo a Theodore?

I worked in childcare for 12 years and came across one Finley. Never heard of a Finn in my child's classes at school. It's not common round where I live.

There are 2 Finns under 4 on my street. I've met a fair few more at baby group etc too.

Only know one Finlay who's 3, I think Finn is a lovely name and it's definitely not as popular as Leo.

Finn was ranked 100th in 2016 with 650 boys being given the name.

For comparison, that means that

were all around the same place but slightly MORE popular.

Leo was ranked 13th in the same year, with 3563 boys given the name.

I know one Finn, aged 14, Scotland. To my mind Finn and Finlay/Finley are different names, not sure if that's a Scottish thing or not.

There is a Finnion, Finn, Finley and Finlay in my DS's reception year (2 class entry). They are all known as Finn/Fin. All lovely boys. We're in Herts. I think it's a fab name.

I'm in Ireland and I know quite a few children named Finn, but no adults. Although I do know many adults named Fionn, Fintan and Finbarr. I like the name, all the versions of it.
