I'm going to have a nameless baby.

I'm due in just over a month, most days DP & I discuss baby names and make no progress whatsoever. He's rubbish at suggesting but quick to say no to the majority of my suggestions.

I like a list of about 10 names, he's vetoed them all bar 2. I'm not really fond on these either.

The two names that haven't been vetoed are
Miles
Victor

I need a timeless name, that's not common now, but not too "unusual". Something your granddad might have been called.

This is probably my 3rd/4th baby name thread Blush

Time is ticking and I'm afraid my poor little man won't have a name!

We named both of ours at the very last minute - and it was so we could try out the names on them once they'd uncrumpled..

We hadn't agreed on anything at all when the babies were born, and they both ended up being called something that wasn't even on a provisional name list.

Why don’t you print off two copies of the top 200 names (or say numbers 100-300) and separately go through with a highlighter and pick the ones you like. You never know, you might end up with the same. I’d find this easier than just having to come up names off the top of my head.

I keep seeing people say Fredrick on MN, and it's not, it's Frederick.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend just had a baby Miles, so it might get a little more popular.

As an aside, hate the name. Reminds me of the most arrogant boy at the (private) school I attended. Thought he was better than everyone else because of his family's money.

James, David or Michael are all classic.

I prefer Miles to Victor.

Wait until you meet the baby. There is no rush.
Dc1 and dc2 were both a month old before they had a name, we wanted to get to know them and I find big decisions hard Grin
Grandmothers were a bit HmmConfused at the time, but soon got over it.
Dc3 was had a name at a week old - speedy!

Miles is nice. Victor makes me think of Victor Meldrew or something off the adams family sorry Blush

Dont worry too much, when baby is born you may both take one look and The Name materialises.

I didn’t have a name until I was over 3 weeks old. I’m fine.
You have ages! Don’t panic.

My grandfathers were Cyril and Herbert if that’s any use! We had a few Victors though in the family tree too.

And for the record, my dgm had a ddog who was called Nameless!!
He was a stray and dgm was adamant she wasn't keeping him she wouldn't give him a name.

Try saying names out loud in a sentence too to see how you feel about them, eg. Miles come downstairs, did you have a nice day miles, can you give miles his bath

I found it helped me decide if I liked a name or not saying it in contexts that it would be used in day to day rather than just looking at the name on its own.

Celtic names may be the way to go, e.g. Rory, Angus, Finn, Fergus, Iain etc.

Does a baby really 'look like' a Steve, a Jack or a James? ConfusedDon't all babies look pretty similar?
