I know one little girl called it. I do like it but prefer Keziah which I think is quite similar.

In a way I prefer it spelt Katurah if that’s an option. Looks nicer and gets rid of the Ket connection. Also more nickname potential like Kat, although Kitty would be my favourite for a nickname - love it.
Katurah really growing on me!

@TeaAddict235 no, I'm not arguing, I just find it difficult to believe that you'd never discuss drugs/dangers of drugs etc with children/teens etc. Well done though for being so high brow and too academic for such basic matters. Anyway I'm not going to derail the thread anymore.

That might be correct for you @eurgh , but that's not my experience. As a child of a pastor and with friends who are pastors or pastors wives, I've never heard it mentioned at meals or in conversation. As a chemical engineer it's not really the most super dupa interesting chemical out on the street or in the lab as far as I know. I don't think that this needs to be an argument as per @Jasmina456 . Is this how threads on this section often develop? Someone mentions one potential nickname and then it impossible to consider the positives of a name, or give hope to the OP? Shame

Knowing about Ket =/= automatically associating it with the name Keturah (or a person named Keturah)

I really like it. Unusual and different, without being to far out there. I personally wouldn't make the connection to the drug.
I also love Kezia, which has already been mentioned. Also Kenza, which is of Arabic origin.

Old family name on my mum's side too, but not used for at least 3 generations. I think I'd always thought it was Katurah - and therefore could have had Kate as nickname / shortened version. Is that a possibility?

That your kids go to "a very posh, uber academic private school" is neither here nor there.

And for the record I went to private school and loved it! I was and still am highly academic, and have a PhD from a highly selective RG and a business and and and should I go on??? Like I said, certain people probably wouldn't be in my social circles Wink you brought it on yourself

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it (and I'm sure many people would have the same reaction).

Apart from that, I know it's a matter of taste but I'm not overly keen on it.

Obviously biased as DD3 is Keturah. She does get called Kitty sometimes and as a toddler she called herself Turah which I thought was cute. The older she gets the more she is using her full name. I love the meaning and I think it's s name that works on all ages. My DD3 was 1 of 4 born in the same year
We have never had any negative comments to our face. She has never been called Ketchup or make any reference to Ketamine. Sometimes the origin and spelling do need to be explained but only once. I understand not everyone will love it but at least it makes her memorable. Most importantly she loves her name
Interesting that a lot of people have suggested Keziah as that is DD2 so they must go together more than I realised
If you love it, do it

It's my middle name after my great grandmother. Not sure I'd like it as my first name though. My kids and husband 'shorten' it to Ketchup!

They have drugs education lessons in year 8, and were taught about all the different illegal drugs, their side effects, and different names. Ket definitely came up!

It's a lovely name and very regal. I think that people who confer with the drugs name wouldn't be people that I'd have in my circle of friends anyway or who'd be introduced to my child

Oh don't be so sanctimonious. My kids go to a very posh, uber academic private school, and my friends are from professional circles, and they still all know what ket is!

I'm not sure. Completely honestly, it sounds like you've scoured the Baby Names book for a biblical name that no-one's using at the moment.

It also does sound a little bit medicinal. I think there are much better names out there.
