Is this useable? It's the only name we can agree on and it's really growing on me. Surname is boring/fairly common 2 syllables and middle name would be Francesca which is a tribute to a family member. We don't want Francesca as a first name as the family is full of Frank's and Frankies! What do you think?

It's awful, plain and frumpy. Why would you pick that when there's so many other names to choose from!

I have just good associations to the name Vera, and I love it. It’s on my list.

I have, on the other hand, terrible associations with Veronica and Verity. I knew an absolutely horrific verity....god she was a piece of work.

I quite like Veronica, but I would think it was a Catholic name, but that might just be me. I like Roni as a short version.

I like it. It's simple and quite sweet. I dislike Verity, I have never known a nice one. Veronica is a really grown up name and underused.

Love it OP. It was my grandmother's name. I adored her so i have nothing but really happy associations with it.

I don't like Verity either. I think it sounds a bit drippy and sounds like Ferrety. I don't particularly like Keira/Ciara but not my baby.
If you like the name Vera then why not use it.
Most times I hear a name I tend to think something but it usually suits the person who has it.

That is easily one of the most over the top, ridiculous, nonsensical responses I've seen on a mumsnet name thread. And mumsnet name threads are full of over the top, ridiculous, nonsensical responses.

Interesting comments thank you. I don't understand the view that she will be unmercifully teased. I'm not calling her Poohead! I understand it's not to everyone's taste and that's fine. I hate the name Verify personally...it's too flouncy and reminds me of a spoilt brat with ringlets. I'm not 100% so will probably be back with another name some can get ridiculously outraged about! 😂

I think in a few years time it will sound quite fresh again, along with other names of its era.

I like Vera. It's old, but sort of quirky as well nowadays which makes it newly fresh. You could maybe consider Verena, which is another version of it.

I think Vera Francesca sounds great. Yes it's an old name but so too are Archie, Freddie,Violet etc.

The only Veras I personally know are an elderly relative and the drop dead gorgeous wife of a colleague (from eastern Europe).

It feels 'old' to me, but I did wonder why it hadn't come back in as its a nice name and names do come in cycles. Its probably quite edgy. Its nice to not have a name ending in y or ie

Is it the same meaning as Verity?

I know a Verda, which I also think is lovely

Vera Duckworth was a Veronica. I don't like it or many of the Corrie names like Ivy, Ida, Ena, Audrey, Hilda etc. I don't mind Alma or Gail.

At the moment Vera reminds me of Brenda Blethyn’s lady detective Vera Stanhope.

It can be short for Verity which is lovely and would go with Francesca very well.
