Hubbie and I are so stuck on boys names. He's from a (VERY) big family, so we're trying to avoid immediate family names.

This means no to:

Robert
Keith
James
Christopher
David
Jonathan
William
Zachary

Hubbie also hates nickname names serious eye roll He has no problem with nicknames but he's deadset against names that originated as nicknames being on the actual birth certificate (I'm starting to wonder if he's 64 not 34...)

So that's no to:

Harry
Alfie
Fred
Bobby etc.

I'm really fond of Edward. He's not. But I'm staying firm and would like it in their somewhere... We do want a middle name - I quite like the idea of two. Hubbie has two, as does my little brother and I think it sounds nice.

I'm 28 weeks... and we've been trying to seriously think of a name since our 20 week scan. I swear girls names are easier!

Help me Mumsnet, you're my only hope!

I agree with your husband on nicknames. Alfred or Henry on birth certificate, Alfie or Harry day to day.

I love the list you mention. Classic names that have lots of nickname options.

Like you, I love Edward (Ed, Eddie, Ted, Ned)
William
Joseph
Samuel
Matthew
Thomas
Michael
Jonathan
Gabriel

I don't like Thomas but Tom is gorgeous.
It'll never date. It's both gentle and strong

I love Christopher.
