We've managed to narrow it down to these three but baby's due in a week and we still can't decide for the life of us.

  • Sunshine
  • Symphony
  • Seawillow

I know they're not MN Approved names but hoping some people on here will have similar taste.

We already have a Honeybee and a Starling.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
heateallthebuns · 11/06/2018 16:07

I actually think this is a wind up, since that last post about baby beads.

SomeKnobend · 11/06/2018 16:00

Ahahaha trolltastic! I vote Seawilly as well.

LoveInTokyo · 11/06/2018 15:59

Blazing my first Biscuit

MatildaLovesBooks · 11/06/2018 15:56

I meant to say: Willow isn’t out-there at all*. It’s popular.

MatildaLovesBooks · 11/06/2018 15:54

They’re definitely more girls’ names than boys’ names OP.

The best is Sunshine with Sunny as a nn.

Seawillow is just silly and will inevitably become Willow by friends and teachers. Willow isn’t out-there to at all.

Sympthony is just weird.

I’m all for different name but if I was called Sympthony or Seawillow, I would change my name. There are much nicer, ‘out-there’ names out there. It’s like you’ve just picked three random words.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 15:20

You're the one calling people 'nasty', blazing. tokyo's posts are perfectly reasonable.

Blazinghotmonkey · 11/06/2018 15:02

Tokyo I actually feel a bit sorry for you that you have to come on Mumsnet and talk to others the way you do to (I presume) make yourself feel a bit more important. I hope you find more to fill your dayFlowers

LoveInTokyo · 11/06/2018 14:23

You can if you like, but since you don’t know what my children are called (or even whether I have any), that would be rather silly. (But in character, apparently.)

TomaytoTomarto · 11/06/2018 14:22

I know - I chose my words carefully (always do - like the names I chose too!). How lovely it is to be able to describe my children as such.

common, most have a top 30 name, some are of an ilk like ours. It's all good, and the kids don't even know to care.

Blazing, totally agree.

Maybe I think it's bonkers to call your children something top 30, Tokyo. Maybe I judge you for being a sheep.

LoveInTokyo · 11/06/2018 14:20

Grin @ “Seawilly”

commonarewe · 11/06/2018 14:15

Again, there are many names between “Lily” and “Seawillow”.

A happy compromise - "Seawilly"! Grin

LoveInTokyo · 11/06/2018 14:13

Again, there are many names between “Lily” and “Seawillow”.

It’s not a binary choice between “top 10” and “bonkers”.

Blazinghotmonkey · 11/06/2018 14:11

There really are some nasty women on this thread. It’s your children I feel sorry for, not those whose parents have chosen names that you as adults would openly mock and sneer at.

commonarewe · 11/06/2018 14:10

Their peers do not bat an eyelid.

Are their peers called Onzobalonzo, Grimalkin, and Shartfast?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 14:03

tomayto you just described your own children as 'cool' and 'joyful'. Speaks volumes.

TomaytoTomarto · 11/06/2018 13:55

OK. I have unusually-named children. They are deliciously joyful and have loads of friends (that they have made themselves, not just my friends' children). They are confident and cool and charismatic. IF they decide to go by a mainstream name, I will support that - they are not saddled with a name any more than a top-ten named child is - we can all legally change our name, or just request to be called something else day-to-day. It really is not a big deal. But while my husband and I got to choose, we chose the most fantastic names we could for them, names that we love and make us happy. So far, they love them too. Their peers do not bat an eyelid. It is really no problem, and in this day and age people are ever-more accepting. Except on MN, it feels.

LoveInTokyo · 11/06/2018 13:34

Imagine living in a world where you don’t have to associate with people whose views are different to yours or who might judge you for having a silly name?

I take it your children are all homeschooled and you will push them towards self employment or careers in the arts.

Good luck to them it they decide that they would rather be an actuary though.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 13:28

But cosmoa you would give your child a name you know would make them more likely to be picked on? Why? Kids have enough to contend with already.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 13:27

Of course I wouldn't condone it! I'm just stating that people can be cruel, which is a fact.
I myself said that it is sad but true. It would be nice if we lived in a world where no one judged anyone, but real life isn't like that.

Cosmoa · 11/06/2018 13:25

You know, some people don't actually care if people are bitching behind their back and being mean about a name.. Because they don't want to associate with people like that anyway.

Blazinghotmonkey · 11/06/2018 13:23

Isn’t it terribly sad that we live in a world where parents and children snigger behind children’s back for something as innocent as a name.
Space would you tell your children that it’s unkind to pick on people or would you condone their behaviour towards Symphony because it’s their hippy parents fault for picking such an unconventional name?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 13:15

cosmoa I know of plenty of people who have given their kids stupid names. And I also know that the vast majority of the other parents and children are laughing, pointing, and sniggering behind the back of little 'Symphony'.
Sad but true.

LoveInTokyo · 11/06/2018 13:09

You might find it a shame, but a lot of people do think that. People who live in the same world that the OP’s children have to live in.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 11/06/2018 13:09

Ah but now you're just making shit up. I didn't say you were a pretentious hippy. I said the names are pretentious. Which they are.

Cosmoa · 11/06/2018 13:05

Such a shame that people think that just because you don't go for a mainstream name.. You're automatically a pretentious hippy in LaLa land. How original.
