Thoughts? To go with DS Rory.
I have posted before about Ciara. We are still considering Ciara but I'm really liking this. Potential nickname could be Aily.
Living in UK, half Irish baby.

Agreed, not an old lady name, just a rare & lovely one.

I like both Ailis & Ciara, both go well with Rory.

No, not considered an "old lady" style name, just rare. I had friend by the same name when I was a kid, always loved the soft sound it makes. It's a really beautiful name.

Ooooh, Ciara all the way! But you are spot on with the mispronunciation, but a quick correction and it's mostly fine. I never thought it would present such a problem, to be honest, it's fairly straightforward as Irish names go...!

@Timeisslipingaway its probably Eilis with a fada on the E, which is Ay-lish.

I have a cousin called ailish but hers is spelled, Ellis, I think 🤔

I prefer Ciara. I can't help but think of "ailing" with Ailish - not great connotation. Prefer Eilis for that reason.

may I'm basing it on the baby name stats. Born in 2017 it said there were 3 girls called Ailis and 11 called Ailish in Ireland.

Do you prefer it to Ciara? My concern with Ciara is the whole Key-ah-ra pronounciation or See-air-a, that might drive me loopy!

Well this isn’t actually true but if Ailish is the name you love then go for it.

I think although the correct spelling is Ailis, Ailish appears to be more commonly used, even in Ireland, so that's good enough for me Grin and will be easier for people to pronounce.
We went for Rory rather than Ruairi for the same reason and Rory is more commonly used than Ruairi in Ireland too according to the name stats.

Moonkissed the 'correct' spelling is indeed Ailis. My Irish friend ended up changing it to Ailish, though, as people where she lives in the UK were getting it wrong all the time.

Gummy Eilis/Eilish is a different name altogether. They would be the Irish equivalent of Elizabeth, whereas Ailis would be anglicised as Alice.

Love love love it, and I think it goes better than Ciara with Rory. We also considered Eilidh for DD (Scottish, living in South East England) but when we tested it putshemostly would have been called Eyelid

Isn't the correct spelling of that name Ailis? I'm not really a stickler for correct spellings but if you are considering Ciara (which is the correct spelling, and lovely by the way) then maybe you are!
