My friend is currently expecting a little girl. She posted on Facebook the other day, that her daughter's name would be Myaa-Graice. I actually thought she was joking! It looks awful! Nobody will ever be able to spell the poor child's name. I think she should call her Maya Grace instead without hyphen and weird spelling. Wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

Mair really is NOT pronounced Maia/Myaa. It is pronounced My but with 'r' on the end. Like Myra without the a.
I don't care if you know 100 Mairs all pronounced My-uh, there is only one way to say Mair. It is 1 syllable.
Mair Edwards is pronounced My Redwards.

Mair is such a pretty name, why mispronounce it.

You may not like the name but she does, and that’s all that matters.

I have a name which is quite uncommon in the UK and had two spellings - the UK version and the German version (1 letter different between the two). People ALWAYS spell it wrong- even when responding to an email where I have written my name.

Your friends dd is being condemned to a lifetime of this x 1000!

It's like announcing you've called your child 'Cat' but you're spelling it 'Dog'

Candyflip, Myaa-Graice is not a label I would want anyone to foist on an innocent child. The child would have to live with it, day in, day out. I think the conventional spelling Maia-Grace looks so much better. I don't like hyphenated first names (Ok on the continent but not in the UK), I don't particularly like the name Maia, and I think Grace is overused as a middle name, but at least it looks like a name.

Because that’s my sister’s name. My mom needed to tell us apart. It really has nothing to do with the OP (or any judgey fuckers on this thread) what people want to call their own child.

Maya is a nice name, Grace is a nice name...but I don't think they go together that well, and your friends spelling is ridiculous...the child will spend a lifetime correcting everyone on the spelling, it looks like she is trying too hard to give the baby a trendy name, but instead it makes two lovely names appear chavvy

Yes I might do that actually. Did think it may be some kind of typo at first, but she's posted a few times with same spelling

At least I won't be alone with a stupid spelling with all these new babies! Sadly they're decades younger than me, but at least they'll understand the total stupidity of the misspellings.
