Myaa-Graice

My friend is currently expecting a little girl. She posted on Facebook the other day, that her daughter's name would be Myaa-Graice. I actually thought she was joking! It looks awful! Nobody will ever be able to spell the poor child's name. I think she should call her Maya Grace instead without hyphen and weird spelling. Wanted to see what everyone else thinks.

Appalling name. But her choice

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 08/06/2018 00:26

As much as I agree that it's not a nice name, and it's not. I do feel sorry for this woman, if she should find this thread, that a so called friend has outed her on a public forum to sneer for shits and giggles.

LuMarie · 08/06/2018 00:17

So investment bankers are to blame for a fight over the way a stranger spells their kid's name!

SemperIdem · 08/06/2018 00:09

That is flat out awful.

iris96 · 07/06/2018 19:30

It looks like a spelling mistake IMO. Not personally a fan of the names even when spelled 'traditionally', but Maia-Grace / Maya-Grace is better.

LoislovesStewie · 07/06/2018 18:15

By the time your friend has told everyone how to say/spell it she will be sick and tired of the name and will decide Mary is easier on everyone.

TwitterQueen1 · 07/06/2018 18:08

I think we can squeeze in a few more characters... how about
Miyhaa-Graiycse Wink

LoveInTokyo · 07/06/2018 18:02

Let’s hope she does see this thread and has a bit of a rethink before the poor child is registered then!

Cosmoa · 07/06/2018 17:24

Now when you Google 'Myaa-Graice' this post is at the top of the search.

Now your only has to Google her daughters name to find out one of her 'friends' has been bad mouthing her name choice!

dingdongdigeridoo · 07/06/2018 13:09

I mean, it’s bloody awful and everything, but what can you do? She can name her DD whatever she wants. I’m sure your friend wouldn’t like my name choices.

Luckily, the poor kid will probably just get sick of explaining her name to people and shorten it to Maya. She can always change it by deed poll when she’s older.

I just hope your friend isn’t on MN.

SilverySurfer · 07/06/2018 00:31

People will assume the parents are illiterate and who could blame them?

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 23:24

We luv yoonique names on here.

Cat12321 · 06/06/2018 23:22

@MikeUniformMike nope! Like Lexie May 😬

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 23:12

Is it pronounced Leksy-eye May-eye?

Cat12321 · 06/06/2018 22:58

Awful

I know of a 'Lexii-Maii'. Honestly.

Growingboys · 06/06/2018 22:56

Horrendous

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 06/06/2018 22:56

Say nothing, just like you do when your friend goes out with a nutter.

Your friend has chosen 2 popular bland millenial names, and tried to make it unusual, and in the end she will just be called Mya.

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish : What is wrong with Chavs? Unusual spellings are Chavy? What is a chav? Chav comes from the word chavi which is romanian for child......

Are you one of the people that blames the social discourse in the UK on chavs? Like the London riots in 2011? Get out of waitrose and widen your brain dear.... It's the upper classes, the investment bankers who have their money squirreled away from taxman. England is a disgusting place if you look at a babies name and class it socially into a scale that you inherited by other small minded british.

OP, you are a snob, and mean.

rainingcatsanddog · 06/06/2018 22:51

Is the baby's name Mia, Mya or Maya? Grace or Gracie?

EvaTheOptimist · 06/06/2018 22:49

If she googles her preferred name she will find this thread!

MissVanjie · 06/06/2018 22:47

that's not a name, it's a safari suggested password

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/06/2018 22:46

That's a good point about it looking like Mmmyaah. Maybe you could say you mentioned it to someone (best not say you mean half of Mumsnet) and they pronounced it that way, would that bother her?

Graice to rhyme with plaice, I suppose. You could drop that in too. Poor kid.

MikeUniformMike · 06/06/2018 22:38

Mair Evans is indeed pronounced My Revans. What a lovely name.

Ummmmgogo · 06/06/2018 22:35

it's not the worst name I've heard.

midsomermurderess · 06/06/2018 22:31

I'd think it was a wind up.

bridgetreilly · 06/06/2018 22:16

I would pronounce Myaa with one syllable, sort of like M'yah. Not like Maya. Myaa-Graice is ludicrous. Poor kid.
