Biblical name. Boys. Looking for thoughts and opinions?

Reminds me out the scene in When Harry Met Sally when Harry is singing Surrey With a Fringe On Top without noticing his ex and her new BF have walked in.

Also- IRA. But I'm Irish so it would never be a goer here.

LadyPeacock · 04/06/2018 20:08

Could you find an alternative spelling?

Irah
Ihra
Yra
Eyra
Ayra

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 04/06/2018 20:07

I know two Ira's and they're both female and English if that matters. The I.R.A connotations puts me off.

SisterMoonshine · 04/06/2018 20:05

I really like it.
I think of Ira Gershwin and Ira Glass.

MikeUniformMike · 04/06/2018 20:02

Eira is a girl's name.
How about Eli?

Jj2431 · 04/06/2018 19:58

The spelling is a no. What about Eira

villainousbroodmare · 04/06/2018 19:57
Great song but so sad.
villainousbroodmare · 04/06/2018 19:54

IRA or Drunken Ira Hayes, the whiskey-drinkin' Indian from the Johnny Cash song.

sirmione16 · 04/06/2018 19:52

Ieuan? (Pronounced yi-yun) welsh name

sirmione16 · 04/06/2018 19:51

Oops sorry, yes it is! I forgot we were talking of a boys name lol long day

bixquert · 04/06/2018 19:49

I like Eira but to me that is a girls name for some reason🤔

sirmione16 · 04/06/2018 19:47

I know an Eira (ay-ra) which I like the sound off not too dissimilar

bixquert · 04/06/2018 19:33

No doesn’t have to be biblical!

NoCureForLove · 04/06/2018 19:30

It was a name you know long before the IRA! It's a lovely name - I know a fab 7 yo Ira. No one ever thinks of those connotations- they just think of him.

Gus
Amos
Moses
Solomon (Solly)

Andthatsthat · 04/06/2018 19:28

Love Asa too!

Andthatsthat · 04/06/2018 19:28

Ezra
Elijah
Isaiah
Luca

All short boys names with the ‘a’ sound at the end.

Or Idris? Keeping the ‘I’

Icklepickle101 · 04/06/2018 19:26

Lyra?

Is that similar sounding

PleasingMe · 04/06/2018 19:26

One of my all time favourites. Along with Asa and Ike

ferrier · 04/06/2018 19:25

I think Ira Gershwin but I see IRA.

Isaiah as an alternative? Do you particularly want biblical?

bixquert · 04/06/2018 19:23

Anyone think of a similar name?

OP posts:
bixquert · 04/06/2018 19:21

Pronounced Eye-ra. Such a shame as I think it’s lovely but I just don’t think it’s going to workSad

Racecardriver · 04/06/2018 19:19

This was a popular name for women in my patents generation (now in their sixties soviet). I like it but didn't realise it was unisex. How would you pronounce it?

KarinVogel · 04/06/2018 19:19

The Ira I know is a Russian woman and she pronounces it Eera,. I like the name but -maybe because of the 'a' ending cant see it as a boys name. Irrational I know but you asked Grin

Sagegreen · 04/06/2018 19:17

I read it as the IRA I'm afraid, even in lower case.

wowfudge · 04/06/2018 19:15

Eye Ra - Ira Levin the author comes to mind.
