Opinions on Cormoran

Is it too unusual for a boy?
Yes from the Robert Galbraith novels, but I think we'll stick to the Cornish giant origin.
DH and I love it, but are we setting him up for a life of "Cameron, is it?" Does that even matter? I have an unusual variation of a more common name and it's never particularly bothered me...
Thoughts? (Rhys as a middle name, if it's relevant)

Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like it's back to the drawing board! Shame we're not having a girl, have had that one sorted for yonks.

Sorry but it'd be a no from me, I straight up read it as Cor-moron. Cameron Rhys or Corben Rhys would be lovely alternatives however. :)

It sounds like the official name of a minor aristocrat who normally goes by the nickname Bunty or something

It took me about 3 reads and sounding outs to work out how I'd pronounce it (not sure I'm doing it right though!) seems quite difficult and like someone else has said, more of a mix between 2 different names.

Sorry op but that is awful.

Why would you give your child a name that they would constantly have to spell to people/have it pronounced wrong/have people take piss/is such an ugly name?

Your choice but kids are cruel... I too immediately saw "moron" which is what is 'nickname' would likely be from other kids.

Even Cormoran in the books is hardly ever called it - he has a thousand different nicknames, it seems! And he gets "Cameron?" I seem to remember, even though he is fictional. But there's nothing wrong with it in my opinion apart from the Cameron confusion and they are not more similar than say Molly and Milly.

If I saw it written down I'd assume it was a typo and meant to be Cameron to be honest. Would also be concerned about people calling him "moron" at school.

I love the books but still mostly think about a bird when I hear Cormoran. And I do want to add “t” at the end.
Tbh I wouldn’t use it as my child’s first name. Maybe as a middle name, MAYBE.
