DH name pronunciation

I am well aware of regional dialect etc so for context DH and I grew up in the same area, went to the same school and sixth form, we did go to different Uni's. My favourite girl's name is Tabitha, DH says he likes it best out of our list too but incessantly pronounces it Tabiffuh , I've explained it's a th not a f, but he hasn't said it properly once yet. It's not a complex name, and he says this , that and the other not fis, fat and fe ofer. I feel like I have to give up on my favourite name because he's too lazy to say it properly.

Find another name! My husband kept using f instead of th in our baby's name and in the end we re-named him. I realised very quickly that family harmony would not survive otherwise. We kept the original name as a middle name though.

I've had this. Love the boys name Jonah, DH (and all others with a local accent where we live) pronounces it 'Jerrrrrnah' rather than 'Jo-nah' so it's been scrapped 😭

@RosieCotton I have the same issue with my DP he pronounces our sons name Isaac as I-Zack whereas I pronounce it more like I-zuck it just sounds so much nicer the way I say it I think. DS responds to both pronunciations of his name so I try not to be too bothered about it!

He came home from work earlier in the week and told me he's been practicing 😂 He gets it about 90% of the time now so I'm hopeful he'll be ok. His mum has also teased him about it, after all this it'll be a boy anyway!

It shouldn't put you off using the name, you could try and correct but at the end of the day that's how your husband talks, I don't think you can change it unless you get him elocution lessonsWink...

Several children in nursery and Reception called Isaac and none of them pronounce it “eye sack”.

Is it a regional thing? (We’re in London.)

I say Isaac with a ‘z’ sound too. As does everyone else I’ve ever heard say it!
I think you’re going to have to strike Tabitha off your list OP...

Isaac is definitely Izack.

But yes, choose another name.

What has he said when you've spoken to him about these concerns?
If it's not a name that is easy for him to say, or if he's going to carry on pronouncing it wrongly, I think you should probably find another name tbh.

@Jj2431 the whole topic started because he was telling me of the names we'd both suggested (some by text during work etc) Tabitha was the girl's name he liked best! It was the first time I heard him say it out loud

Agreeing with others on the pronunciation of Isaac having a ‘z’ sound in English.

OP, I’d find another name. The ‘th’ as ‘f’ thing is pretty entrenched in people who use it, and it will drive you mad.

@daisypond he can say south, birthday, another, it's like someone hit him on the head, we had five minutes earlier of Me:TabiTHa him oh yeah Tabiffuh me no, not teeth to lip, tongue to teeth, like (any other word with th in the middle, think was an example we used) him, oh yes yes, Tabiffuh. Luckily he was going out or I might've killed him. He also says undermimed every single time, that one makes me laugh though because I imagine a mime artist doing a half arsed job. He can say that properly if he thinks about it. He's actually quite bright and well educated. The weird pronunciations he gets from his mother, who whilst lovely spent more time at the stables than in a classroom.
