French Middle name for boy 'Lugh'

D-Day is approaching fast and we keep flip flopping on boys names (baby's sex is a surprise!)
We've loved a few and then, probably just over thought them !!

Now we are thinking Lugh - who is an Irish God, pronounced Lou / also like Hugh - I'm Irish, DH is French and although he is not bothered at all about having a French name in the mix, I like the idea.

So - any idea's of French boy names for a middle name for Lugh ? Or French words ? Eg: for a girl we had 'Hiver' (winter) as a potential middle name..

Help is greatly appreciated !!

‘My name is Lugh, like Hugh with an L’ -problem solved.
I think the ‘loo’ thing is a non issue and there far worse names suggested on here daily!

There are hundreds of beautiful French girls' names. Why would you choose a non-name that doesn't make sense for a summer baby and is pronounced in a completely different way in French & English?

Lugh would be a nightmare to explain to people as well. Can you imagine a lifetime of spelling it on the phone, then saying "Yes, it's weird. My parents thought they were bestowing special snowflakery on me with this name"?

Lugh looks an ugly name to me and i wouldn't know how to say it. How about Hugh? It's a normal name and not ugly.

Being realistic, it's not the same thing to be affectionately nicknamed Lou as a shortening of Louise or Louis, and to be officially named Lugh. Most would introduce themselves as Louise or Louis and be referred to by their full names professionally or by teachers in the register at school, and the nn Lou would be assumed naturally thereafter. So, it's really not the same dynamic at all, imo at least. It is your child though, not mine, so you may name your child whatever you may desire. :)

Guys come on - lot's of Louis' will be shortened to Lou, Louise - Lou, Lucille, anyone in France that you like, you can call Lulu !
I'm not concerned about that ;)

I know - sad that if it's a girl we can't use Hiver, as it's a summer baby - maybe next time ;)

I find it a bit odd the amount of people concerned with the association of loo as a word for toilet... Louise and Lewis / Louis are so often shortened to 'Lou/Lew' and I would say it's a very familiar and commonly used name? So I wouldn't let that put you off in my opinion

And FYI, if you're Welsh Hugh is pronounced Hew, as in hewing wood.

How about Louis? Works in French and English and you could find a nice Irish middle name.

Plenty of people are called Lou (e.g. me Grin) without mickey taking so I wouldn’t worry about that at all.

It sounds like "loo" which could be the source of mickey taking.

There are so many beautiful French names, Christope, Jean, Pierre; why not use one of those?

Hugues - French Équivalent of Hugh.
Hiver, for a girl born in the summer seems a bit unseasonal

If you're in Ireland this would get pronounced as Lug which is slang for ear.

Just to note, as nice as it is, I wouldn't recommend using the name Lugh if you live in England by the way. There will be endless toilet/loo jokes. If you live elsewhere this may not be a concern however thought I'd mention it.

Not to be a killjoy, but you know a huge amount of people in the UK call a toilet a loo. You’re effectively naming him the same as a toilet.
