DH and I are really struggling with a name for our second DC due any day now. We both like Tristan but neither of us are completely convinced by it. I like that it is a traditional but uncommon name, and DH likes that it is Celtic.

My main concern at the moment is that if you google Tristan it comes up with loads of pages about Tristan Thompson and the Kardashians! I hate the thought of that being people's first thought when they hear the name.

What do you think about it?

Tristan - posh. A skinny posh boy. It's not a strong name. I don't think it's a terrible name. It's useable. However I think you'd have to be a bit well off to pull off this name - similar to Rupert, Tarquín, Barnaby...that kind of thing.

Legend of the Fall....

serendipitintea · 02/06/2018 21:08

A boy with blonde curtains.... maybe this was someone I went to school with.

After that, definitely Tristan Thompson.. but I wouldn't worry about that, will be yesterday's news in no time

Love it!

Reminds me of James Herriot and a huge school girl crush on the character. I also know one in his 40s, who is lovely so good connotations for me Grin

I love it! There is an alternative spelling Trystan if you are worried people will associate it with ‘triste’ meaning sad. ( although it doesn’t make me think of that at all).
I also like Lawrence!

A poster on here Grin.

I quite like it but would never have called my child it.

Purplevicki · 02/06/2018 20:40

One of my best friends. Often gets misheard/ misspelt to Tristrum or Christian

bringbacksideburns · 02/06/2018 20:35

Yes - I instantly think of the kid who used to live next door to George and Mildred too Grin

Grammarist · 02/06/2018 20:34

I think it's a great name.

It's classical and reminds me of a very important person in my life. Love it!

sonnyboo · 02/06/2018 20:33

Sad! Triste in French!

Love Quentin though.

midsomermurderess · 02/06/2018 20:32

A terrible idiot I used to work for.

lottiegarbanzo · 02/06/2018 20:32

I know one. NIce, clever.

I think of 'and Isolde', also James Herriot. Never heard of the one in the OP (am early 40s).

It's definitely a 'polite' name, I can't imagine a Tristan being thuggish. I can imagine him reading poetry, speaking foreign languages, generally being a well-educated, in-touch with his emotions but sensible type.

Sparrowlegs248 · 02/06/2018 20:28

James herriot i dont mind it but its a bit weak.

James Herriott

Madmarchpear · 02/06/2018 20:25

Split down the middle thinking effeminate public school boy/hunky beau of Isolde.

sweetboykit · 02/06/2018 20:23

Theodore has been ruined for me by Teddy in Prison Break. How about Wentworth?

weebarra · 02/06/2018 20:08

My first love - I was eleven.
& Isolde.
A fabulous son of friend, just turned 8.

EdWinchester · 02/06/2018 19:42

Mimsy.

Sailinghappy · 02/06/2018 19:39

It makes me feel "sad" because that's what 'triste" means in French, Spanish, Italian, Welsh etc

NutCase82 · 02/06/2018 19:39

I love it, was on my boys names list

woodhill · 02/06/2018 19:34

All creatures great and small but I like the name
