We are expecting our rainbow baby and it’s a boy! If he had been a girl he would have been Iris meaning ‘rainbow’
Does anyone know a boys name that has a similar meaning or is well fitting for a baby after a loss? Either for a first or a middle name. Thank you-Jane.

I can’t believe no one suggested Noah!!!
🌈
Rowan is lovely although I didn’t know it was also a boys name as the only ones I’ve known have been girls. In this day and age I’m sure that’s not really an issue anyway.
Congratulations

Rex- king- exactly what this little boy will be to you guys!

TuTru · 06/06/2018 09:24

I’d call him Rainbow

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/06/2018 09:23

Lovely choice OP.

DeadButDelicious · 05/06/2018 21:25

Rowan Enfys. Lovely. Absolutely lovely.

Rowan was on my list for a girl and Enfys for a boy. I think they are lovely names that work for either sex. Good choice!

LastNightsMakeUp · 04/06/2018 12:40

I love Rowan 😊 and the mn goes perfectly. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

ICantCopeAnymore · 04/06/2018 12:09

Love Rowan. Yes, I'm in Wales and it's a girl's name. Never, ever seen it for a boy before - perhaps people won't notice if you're not actually in Wales though.
Congratulations :)

JaneDoDo · 04/06/2018 12:05

Thank you.
I’ve seen it listed as unisex plus rainbow is also a noun so as far as I see it it can be used for either. Also although husband is part welsh we don’t live in Wales so many probably won’t associate it with anything. Thank you for letting me know though.

And a female character in the new Star Wars film is called Enfys Nest.

glitterbiscuits · 04/06/2018 11:57

Enfys is traditionally a Welsh girls name. Just in case you wanted a rethink.

Cosmoa · 04/06/2018 11:39

@JaneDoDo gorgeous name!! Congratulations again Grin Flowers

JaneDoDo · 04/06/2018 10:32

Thank you for so many beautiful suggestions and kind words.
I think we are going to go for Rowan Enfys
Rowan-Rowan trees are a symbol for protection, this is why you often see them in churchyards. It also means ‘red haired’ and my grandad who has also passed always wanted a red haired grandson.
Enfys meaning rainbow-not quite brave enough to use as a first name but think it works as a middle name.

skaggy kid from Boatass
You say you're a social worker in a previous post - really? That's worrying. You're disgusting.

CatrionaNess · 03/06/2018 15:33

Orion means rising in the sky.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/06/2018 14:09

I would go for Benedict Theodore - blessed gift from God - and if Theodore is his second name, it wouldn’t be an issue that your friend’s son is Theodore.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

@boatass - no, it is not against guidelines to comment on names - but you could have tried to be a little less rude and offensive. Would you be that unpleasant to someone face to face?

ChuffingNorah · 03/06/2018 14:02

This thread is lovely 🌈 ( apart from the minor skirmish upstream. Well said Cosmoa)
Wishing you loads of love and luck for a happy future whatever name you choose OP.

RosieCotton · 03/06/2018 01:39

Our rainbow boy is called Isaac Rohan. It literally means Isaac - he who laughs. Rohan - red haired boy.

Tate - happy and joyful is also lovely.

Davis/Davis - means beloved.

Belindabauer · 02/06/2018 11:31

Congratulations.
I chose Matthew because it means gift from God.

JaneDoDo · 02/06/2018 10:06

Some people love to hide behind their keyboards!-it says more about them than it does you!
Enjoy your beautiful rainbow!🌈

Thanks Jane, that's what I thought too but some people were really nasty. X

JaneDoDo · 02/06/2018 08:06

I’m sorry to hear that whirliebird personally I don’t see it as a reminder of their sibling but more about how far we have come-he is our rainbow after the rain🌈
I haven’t had a chance to look through with my husband yet but I will do this morning over a cup of (decaf) tea😉

Congratulations! Our rainbows name means 'bright, shining one'. And she is. She brought hope with her. Wishing you all the luck in the world with your rainbow.

One name I really like and was on our shortlist when we didn't know what we were having yet, was Enfys (pronounced Envis) its welsh for rainbow.

Benandhollysmum · 01/06/2018 21:09

First name I thought of was Phoenix then looked up rainbow baby and the names there..but I’m not sure that is ok for a first name due to kid having to go to school though it be a cool middle name and nickname..

whirliebird · 01/06/2018 21:08

I asked this question when I was pregnant with my rainbow baby and got slated! Most people criticised me for wanting to associate this baby with the one that didn't make it. Having a name (I liked violet or indigo) which wasn't really their own, just a reminder of their sibling. It made me really upset and totally put me off any 'rainbow' name. It's lovely to see you got a much more positive response and I wish you all the best. X
