This comical chap used to play the fool, but he can be extremely sharp; and he’s as hard as stone in his field.
One owner of the name had the top job; another’s son wants it; and, unusually, another was the mother of a man who got to the top.

New clue;

He challenges what you think you know - garlic and crosses mean nothing. He is responsible for divide and multiply and very handy to have around when you need a haircut.

Here you all are (hope there's still a few of us playing!)

This guy was on his way to a fete when he met a pastry chef.
Another guy by the same name declares he likes to play games.
And you'd need good memory to recall the third example of this name: quickly, colourfully and sequentially. (He's not a man himself, but was popular in the 70s and 80s).

Actually I'll just say as you got it!
Fast cars and marmite - Jeremy clarkson but leads into Corbyn with power. Hunt was running the NHS now is home sec known as Lavender in Bodyguard.
