If you’re interested in the popularity of those names, the Darkgreener website is great for checking out how popular individual names have been in England and Wales since 1996.

None of those names are all that popular, but there’s one or two of them that have sharply risen in popularity over the last few years (Betty, Ida, Dorothy)

Trialsmum · 26/05/2018 23:08

One John, one Madeline and one Betty. None of the others.

vampirethriller · 26/05/2018 23:08

bringbackfonzi · 26/05/2018 23:05

Most of these are not (only) pensioner names at all imo. I know at least one of: Betty, Madeleine, Anne, Dorothy, Douglas, Sidney, John, Alfred.

YoucancallmeVal · 26/05/2018 23:02

Fml. I only know pensioners with those names. Don't you actually like your child??

twinkledag · 26/05/2018 23:01

I know 1 - Dorothy

SoftSheen · 26/05/2018 22:59

I know one child called Dorothy, one called Ida and one called Betty. None of the other names.

Haint · 26/05/2018 22:58

Lots of Alfies. They may be Alfreds. A couple of Sids. A few Madeleines. A Betty. An ida (and an Ada). A new Dottie. I don’t think she’s a Dorothy

xyzandabc · 26/05/2018 22:57

I have 3 kids 11 and under, out of those only one and it's spelt differently, Madeline.
