Jonathan?

My DH and I are really struggling to agree on a name for our baby due in a couple of weeks. We don't know if it's a girl or boy, however we are pretty much sorted for a girls name and have narrowed it down to two.

However the only option DH likes for a boy (and we've been through lots!!!) is Jonathan. I can't get him to consider anything else 😐

Its not a name that jumped out at me but as he's vetoed almost everything else I just wanted to put the feelers out and see what sort of opinions were out there and any associations to be aware of? I guess I'm worried that it doesn't strike me as a baby name...

Love the name Jonathan. It's one of those lovely names that you don't hear all the time but aren't really unusual. Love Andrew too.

I know a Jonathan shortened to Josh. But I love Jonny for a little boy. My son has a name with similar shortenings. When he was little he was the equivalent of Jonny, now he's older he's Jon or Jonathan.

Jonathan is lovely. An under-used classic.

I also think Andrew is lovely and another under-used classic. However! Combining the two, Jonathan Andrew, sounds perhaps a little dated. I'd probably expect a Jonathan Andrew to be born in the 1980s or 1990s. Not a major problem, of course, just my thoughts. If you're set on Andrew, maybe using another middle between the two could be an option:

Jonathan Ellis Andrew
Jonathan Lucas Andrew
Jonathan Zachary Andrew
Jonathan Rory Andrew
Jonathan Oscar Andrew

I really like it. Caution: I know a Johnathon whose parents just misspelled his name and he is perpetually embarrassed by it.

DH is Jonathan and I think it's a great name but just be warned that very few people seem to be able to spell it properly!! We've sent back many official forms and letters to be changed over the years.

I have a brand new Jonathan, chose it because we liked the different shortened versions and felt it was a name that would grow with him.

DS (20) is a Jonathan. His friends call him Jon or Jonny.

My son in law is a Johnathan which is shortened to Johni. I like Andrew as the middle name.

I would just add (in a totally non biased way Wink) my son Jonathan is now 20 and the light of all our lives.

He was my third dc and by far the most placid gentle child ever.
He has grown to a strapping 6ft of loveliness popular with his peers and employers.

The only ones I know are in their 20s or their 50s. It's a lovely name, definitely due a revival, as is Andrew.

Please don't spell it Johnathan though, that's just plain wrong & looks like the parents liked the name but didn't have a clue how to spell it. Jonathon is an acceptable alternative spelling but Jonathan is the nicest version.
