Santa and luella

I really like the name Santa (Spanish name) and luella... I also like Tabitha james.

I can't decide! Please don't post to be negative. Just move on.

Whitley I'm a teacher. I have taught scores of young people with 'interesting' names. I've witnessed just how vicious children can be.

You can assume I'm being mean, you can call me vulgar, but believe me - I'm thinking of your child. Even if you aren't.

No, bullying should not happen. But it does. Frequently. I know exactly how a group of children could react to those names and it would be unpleasant at best, utterly brutal at worst.

But hey, as long as YOU like it, who cares what the impact on your child could be...

@Whitley83 I just hope your child doesn't grow up resenting you for calling her a ridiculous name, as well as a boys name for added teasing! You ask for opinions, you will get opinions, not everyone will agree with everything you think. Good luck with the name choosing.

People are trying to prevent your child getting teased and bullied for their name. By other children, who can be utterly cruel.

But sure, go ahead and name her something stupid. If you don’t give a shit about other opinions, why bother to post? You can just pretend we all agree with you and crack on. Hell, just name her Santa Rudolph Fir Tree for all we care.

I can't understand why people are being so nasty. I said on the first post if you were here to be nasty please done comment but I guess the majority of you didn't read that.

This is my child and if i want to call her Santa as it's a Spanish/Italian name as well as our heritage.

James can be used as a girl or boys name.. no im not copying a celeb, it has been used as a woman's name well before it was in OK magaZine.

Luella is a correct spelling.

I honestly wouldn't dream of commenting on someone's post to be nasty or degrading, I asked for an opinion and to move on if nothing nice was to be said.

Thank you to the people who didn't put down my name choice, degrade me or make fun of me. The rest of you are just vulgar.

Yes, the Santa I knew, her name was short for Alexandra/Aleksandra - I never knew her long-form name. For what it's worth, I think Santa is nicer than Luella.

Santa is a girl’s name in Europe - not just Italy/Spain also Latvia etc where it’s a dim for Aleksandra.

Weird tittering about Santa Claus is just ignorant. I don’t call Father Christmas Santa anyway.

I think Cool was just pointing out that people of a higher class or ‘celeb’ babies won’t suffer the same struggles as us ordinary folk ( not saying they won’t have issues-just different ones) for example Bear Payne won’t have to worry about employers seeing his CV and thinking it’s a joke...

I don't think that the doll is a problem. Anabelle is still used all the time.

It's cruel to use Santa in an English speaking country. I can imagine ho ho ho jokes etc turning her into hating Xmas.

I'd hazard a guess that that has more to do with her seriously upper class, landed gentry with royal family connections family, her hugely elite education and the unimaginable amount of opportunities and money than her name...

Tabitha is lovely.

All names can be unisex. You just have to have some caution when breaking the convention. James for a girl would get comments but hardly be disastrous for her.

But don't spend ages agonising about middle names. They are an irrelevance. Best used to give a kind nod to some relative who would appreciate it. Beyond that pointless.

Of COURSE your child "will be things"! Hmm

My point was (and, tbh, I was pretty clear) what if they are not THOSE things?

What if, instead of being 'feisty' they are quiet? What if, instead of being 'sassy' they are crushingly shy? What if, instead of being 'intelligent' they are average?

Of course your child 'will be things' - but the things they are may not be the things you think or want them to be. In that situation a name like 'Santa' or 'James' can be hugely detrimental to them.

James is 100% a boy's name. It isn't unisex.

Santa is Father Christmas, and utterly ridiculous. I highly doubt that a child would appreciate being saddled with it.

I don't mind Santa, actually. I'm sure I've met one before, but I'm struggling to place her. I've got I feeling it was short for a form of Alexandra. However, I do think it might be difficult to pull off in the UK. Santina would be easier in everyday life. I really don't like Luella, though. James is a boy's name. Tabitha is fine. I wouldn't say that either Santa or Luella were particularly empowering names, as they're either diminutives or very girly - so the opposite of what you want. Alexandra or Alessandra would be much more "empowering" imo.

Santa is ridiculous- unless you want people shouting 'ho ho ho' at her for the rest of her life.
