Opinions on the name Delilah? And what it could be shortened down to I was thinking Dolly ( I wanted this as a name but got a lot of hate for it😬😬 )

Its a nice name but I can't hear Delilah without hearing the song- the Tom Jones one, not Hey there Delilah. What about Dahlia or just Lilah? I agree that Dolly is a cute nn for a little girl but it would be a ridiculous name for a grown woman.

I hear 'why, why, why' and then 'Biblical villain. I'm a Christian but think that the biblical link is fairly well known in the western world even amongst non-believers in the same way that the Tom Jones link is known amongst non welsh people.

I'm not religious either, but Delilah is a name that has cultural significance in all of Western culture - art, history, literature, etc, etc, so it does have a resonance about it that you may not particularly like. But on the other hand, you might not mind at all.

I really love the song hey there Delilah so that doesn't bother me🤣💋 and I'm not religious so have never read the bible so that doesn't bother me either , thanks girlies 🤩🤩

Sorry, I hate Delilah. I wouldn't ever call a child Delilah because of the the bible story - it'd be a bit like calling her Jezebel. How about the Welsh name Dilys? Then you could have Dilly maybe for short.

It's lovely. Not so sure about Dolly though I'm afraid.

The one I know just goes by Delilah, but 'D', Lilah, Lil could all be good nicknames.

I like Delilah (hate Dolly though), however I’m Welsh and will always and forever starting singing “why, why, whyyyyy Delilah” which will at some point segue into Hey There Delilah each and every time I hear the name. And sometimes when I read it. Like now.

I like it! I think Dolly could work well as a nickname. You could also use Lilah.
