Under two weeks to go and still undecided - and don't know the sex of the baby. What do you think of the following names?

Penelope
Clara
Leonora
Miranda
Elizabeth
Rosalind

Robert
Guy
Nicholas

Also, is it me, or are there FAR more nicer girls names than boys?!

I like them all very much apart from Guy which just makes me think of guy-ropes for some reason.

I was at school with a Miranda who has grown up to be very successful so I see it in a positive light. I will say though that from about age 13 onwards she was rarely called by her full name among her peers. She was called Mandy, Milly or another nick name based on her initials. I don't know how you'd feel about that.
I currently know a Clara (to rhyme with Sarah not Zara)and she gets a bit fed up correcting the pronunciation, so that may also be worth considering.

All nice names though.

auntyflonono · 26/05/2018 09:47

Are they all Shakespearean?

Joeybee · 25/05/2018 23:59

There are for sure WAAAY more girls name choices available than boys.

So, these are my thoughts on your names list:

Penelope - LOVE this name. It is a little posh and flustery but it's a nice name, and getting more popular. I also like Phoebe, which is similar.

Clara - A bit meh...bland. A good middle name.

Leonora - Just think of Leonor washing powder and old ladies who smell of talc!

Miranda - YES! This name really needs to get popular again. It's fun and bold, it's feminine but not weak. I think of a Miranda being a sophisticated, put-together lady with a cheeky, fun side.

Elizabeth - Classic, elegant and loads of nickname potential. This name is pretty timeless. It was one of my top contenders befire we found out we are having a boy.

Rosalind - For me too harsh, prefer Rosmarie or Rosalie. However I'm just not a fan of any Rosie names - tooo cutesy.

Robert - A pretty classic name. A little dated maybe, but totally useable and Rob/Bert are cute nicknames.

Guy - Not for me.

Nicholas - YES! Lovely sweet name, but also works well on a man.

Girls I like Elizabeth and Rosalind and boy definitely Robert

SilverBirchTree · 25/05/2018 23:41

@boatass Nicholas and Elizabeth are ‘try hard’ names? Now I’ve heard everything.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/05/2018 22:37

❤️ Miranda and Robert.

RedDwarves · 25/05/2018 21:53

Like all of the girls names except Rosalind, which is dour.

Like the boys names except for Guy.

I would probably choose Leonora, because I like the shortenings more than those which come from the other names. But Clara is good too, for that reason.

Like Robert best for a boy.

FeatheredTail · 25/05/2018 20:40

Thanks for the suggestions and opinions all - except boatass, because, well, your comment is more suited to the AIBU board I think.

I hadn't thought of Miranda sounding like a contraceptive Grin I think that's the Mirena coil you're thinking of Silverbirchtree but either way, it's made me think twice about using it!

Not keen on Leonie, Nicalouse or Luca but thanks for the suggestions.

Penelope Leonora is lovely!
Nicholas Robert sounds strong.

Not try hard at all, just nice names!

butlerswharf · 25/05/2018 20:08

I feel bad to say this but you asked. I really don't like any of those names at all. But thank goodness we aren't all the same as life would be boring.

boatass · 25/05/2018 19:59

All very try hard

daisypond · 25/05/2018 19:57

I like all your names in the main.
I particularly like Miranda, Elizabeth and Rosalind. I really like Guy.

ellalouise90 · 25/05/2018 19:20

Out of your list I would go for Penelope ( can be shortened to pea, penny , Nellie ) 💖
Nicholas for boy 💙

Would you consider niclouse for a boy? 💙

Ohcomeonn · 25/05/2018 19:07

Guy and Miranda

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/05/2018 18:58

Elizabeth and Nicholas.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 25/05/2018 15:23

I like Clara & Nicholas

Argeles · 25/05/2018 14:24

Penelope and Nicholas are lovely.

Alpacages · 25/05/2018 14:19

Love Leonora, don’t really like the others. Rosalyn is a nice alternative to Rosalind.

Knew the cutest 5yr old child named Nicholas years ago, he was always Nick so I like that one best.

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/05/2018 14:16

Love Rosalind and Leonora

From your boys i really like Nicholas but find Robert dull and really don't like Guy sorry

TroubledLichen · 25/05/2018 14:14

I’m so with you on the girl’s versus boy’s names, we never managed to agree on a boy’s name; luckily baby was a girl!!

I like Nicholas and Robert for a boy and, Rosalind, Penelope and Elizabeth for girls.

GrannyHaddock · 25/05/2018 14:11

Did you consider Leonie as a less formal version of Leonora? Clara is great, and so is Miranda.

MikeUniformMike · 25/05/2018 14:10

Penelope - Penny
Clara - I don't like it.
Leonora - I don't like it.
Miranda - not sure. Probably no.
Elizabeth - Lovely
Rosalind - Lovely

Robert - ok
Guy - love it
Nicholas - Love it

userabcname · 25/05/2018 14:07

Oooh Penelope is our top girl name and would have been DS' name if he'd been a girl so that wins it for me.
For boys, I like Nicholas the best from your list.
I agree boys' names are harder - I always feel like there are fewer of them?!

BlueChampagne · 25/05/2018 13:59

Found girls' names easier than boys' ... now have 2 boys. I particularly like Rosalind and Miranda from your list. Less keen on Guy but Robert and Nicholas are good.

How about Anthony or Conrad if you want a couple more boys' names?

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 25/05/2018 13:49

Elizabeth, Rosalind or Clara.

The boys names are all on the same level for me.
