Ivan or Evan?

Which do you prefer?

Really struggling with boys names and these are the top two contenders (with Flynn in 3rd place)

I much prefer Evan but I see what you mean about the similarity in sound to Merryn

Unless you have Slavic roots - i’d go with Evan.
And it goes fine with your DD’s name.
Plus - he’ll be his own person - and their names don’t need to fit beyond a few years when they are tiny and you need to call them both to dinner, etc...

Love Ivan. How about Ivor? Also like Flynn. Not a fan of Evan. Funny how one letter changes the feel of a name so much.

I like both. Evan is a little softer sounding which appeals to me more. Also Evan feels like a name that fits in today. However I like Ivan too. It's a bit more unusual and is more an international sounding name. I think they're both great names, just go for whichever sounds better to you with your surname.

Ivan is always going to be Ivan Milat where I live, with Ivan the Terrible the second most common association.

Flynn is the best of the three though.

Merryn and Flynn is adorable! But I do also love Ivan. Evan is too similar imo.

Flora I pronounce Ivan sort of like Eye-vun and Evan like Ev-an

How would you be pronouncing the names?
In most of the countries where Ivan is an 'everyday' name, it would be EE-vann or EE-vunn,

The Welsh name Evan (as pronounced by non-Welsh speakers) is is EH-van or EH-vn.

Mike they all sound fine with our surname.

Though I’ve just said my DD’s name outloud in the same sentence and I think Evan might almost rhyme with it. DD is Merryn.

Does Merryn & Evan sound too similar? I think they might or am I overthinking? Blush

Ooooo I really like both. I would probably go for Evan myself because Ivan is that bit more unusual but they are both brilliant.
