Names you love but could never use

Just for fun, what names do you love, but can’t use for whatever reason?

I really love Zelda, after Zelda Fitzgerald, but I feel they’d be teased because of the video game.

Anais is also cute. But I foresee lots of issues with pronounciation, and it kind of looks like anus!

Augustus - loved it for a little boy. But I feel people will forever associate it was Augustus Gloop.

What are yours?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
kinseymilhone · 17/05/2018 22:18

My imaginary twins - Lettice and Nettle 😊

Mailfuckoff · 17/05/2018 22:17

Apple or hope for a girl.
Zachariah, Wolfgang or danger for a boy.
Dc got more mainstream names in the end.

Hoppinggreen · 17/05/2018 22:15

Lucifer - means bringer of light
Didn’t use it for obvious reasons

marmitecrumpets · 17/05/2018 22:13

@Skandinaviem
Your surname is Nightingale??

IggyAce · 17/05/2018 22:11

Balthazar, I wasn't brave enough and I know my DH would have vetoed it.

KERALA1 · 17/05/2018 22:09

Augusta. Everyone else hates it. Lucky not having any more DC Grin

Skandinaviem · 17/05/2018 22:06

Florence.. I love it, love all the nicknames,
Flo, Flossie etc etc but could never ever ever use it! Can you guess why?

elQuintoConyo · 17/05/2018 22:04

thetriangleisarealinstrument Moaning Myrtle Grin

Ruby for a girl, but with the surname it'd sound too much like the song Ruby Tuesday by Rolling Stones Grin

Barnaby/Barny we loved but chickened out of. Shame, as DS is a TOTAL Barnaby!

Izaskun for a girl (Basque, DH is Basque) but no bugger would be able to spell or pronounce it.

Littlegreyauditor · 17/05/2018 22:02

The theatre nurse in charge when I had my section was called Zelda! I thought hard about naming DD after her, but DH had a name he adored all planned. Still think it’s a fantastic name though.

KnightsOfCydonia · 17/05/2018 22:02

Sebastian, I wanted to call DD this if she had been a boy although DH said we weren't posh enough to pull it off
I'm now finished and won't ever get a chance to use it, so my car is now named Sebastian Grin

trinitybleu · 17/05/2018 21:59

Malachi for me too... Love the way it sounds but not the way it looks written down

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 17/05/2018 21:58

oh and i LOVE the name Myrtle but absolutely everyone I spoke to hated it including my husband so I did not get to use it :-(

newroundhere · 17/05/2018 21:55

Malachi.

LOVE this name. DH looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested it Sad

Baubletrouble43 · 17/05/2018 21:49

Dmitri. I like the two consonants at the beginning the way it looks and sounds. Never had a boy. Pretty sure dp would laugh at it anyway!

samlovesdilys · 17/05/2018 21:45

I would love love love Rosalind but I have 2 boys...I would also love a Nathaniel...but having watched my first struggle with writing his name for years I could inflict 2nd with even longer name...

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 17/05/2018 21:29

snap triangle I love Ariel, but couldn't use it for that reason

I love Mariel too, but DH vetoed it

Inmyownlittlecorner · 17/05/2018 21:22

Queenie
Linnit
Gulliver

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 17/05/2018 21:21

Psyche= beautiful story, beautiful sounding but inevitable 'psycho' potential for bullying
Isambard= awesome but its just over the cusp of too much
Blixxa= who doesnt want two Xs in their name? but also just over the cusp of too much
Lenore= awesome literary name but also washing powder
Ariel= ditto!
Medusa= mint name but obviously cant use because of the story
Iccarus= ditto
Tristessa= amazing name but what will you do if your child isnt a goth?

ChaiWallahs · 17/05/2018 21:18

Calliope

Mayhemmumma · 17/05/2018 21:15

River

BroomstickOfLove · 17/05/2018 21:14

Lucifer. For obvious reasons.
I quite wanted to call DS Crispin or Clovis, but DP vetoed them.

Aelfwin or Aethelfled for a girl.

thatwhichwecallarose · 17/05/2018 21:06

Willow. Clashes with our popular surname!

RavenLG · 17/05/2018 21:03

I feel they’d be teased because of the video game I think most kids would think it would be cool to be named after a video game and they wouldn't have a clue who Zelda Fitzgerald was anyway. It's a cool name regardless.

BathTangle · 17/05/2018 20:53

Damara- everyone would think it was Demerara, like the sugar!

Tarriance · 17/05/2018 20:51

Jake
Local slang means this isn’t a nice name here...
