Names you love but could never use

Just for fun, what names do you love, but can’t use for whatever reason?

I really love Zelda, after Zelda Fitzgerald, but I feel they’d be teased because of the video game.

Anais is also cute. But I foresee lots of issues with pronounciation, and it kind of looks like anus!

Augustus - loved it for a little boy. But I feel people will forever associate it was Augustus Gloop.

What are yours?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I LOVE Raphael, Wilfred, Frederick, Alfred, Rafferty, William and Raine....but they all clash with my surname so I can't use them.
I also love the name Brianna. However, my name is Joanna, and my Husband is called Bryan...people would think we'd amalgamated our names if we went with Brianna...and I don't want that!

YoucancallmeVal · 17/05/2018 23:43

Am a big fan of the elaborate name: Sheherezade or Persephone etc. Poor imaginary child would be known as Sher or Pers by my family who shorten everything.

Anxiouschild · 17/05/2018 23:39

We wanted Hazel but it clashed with our surname. She has it as a middle name instead.

Nancy. Love the name but it was my late Aunt's name (I never met her) and it would have caused all sorts of issues in my wider family if we'd used it.

Otis. Love this name and it was top of my boy's list. We didn't have a boy so it went unused. Fortunate really as DH vetoed it for no tangible reason, which could well have caused a major rift in our marriage if DC2 had turned out to be a boy! (Slightly lighthearted. A veto is ok even on a favourite name, but it needs some sort of reason. And ideally a half-decent one. Just "No" doesn't count.)

Buntysoven · 17/05/2018 23:37

Demelza.. too ott. Ditto Arriety. Cousin nicked Fern (unintentionally) and DH vetoed Lois which I LOVE. 2 daughters lots of naming dramas and ironically we have a boys name which we agreed on in 2 seconds flat!

MiddleMoffat · 17/05/2018 23:01

Orchil, that is!

MiddleMoffat · 17/05/2018 22:59

Emerald
Ochil

Still regretting Ochil but we have an Elodie instead Grin

cheeseandchoc · 17/05/2018 22:57

Esmerelda
Hepzibar
Josiah
Winter

bluechameleon · 17/05/2018 22:56

I wasn't brave enough for Gabriel or Raphael. Penelope is a bit too much with our P surname.

beltanelove · 17/05/2018 22:51

I love Rain. But her surname is Hatton. Rain hat on

slippermaiden · 17/05/2018 22:47

Hepsibah! I absolutely love it but feel it's a bit out of our range 😂

Skandinaviem · 17/05/2018 22:43

Sorry! Had to feed the baby. Yes, my surname means I would never be able to have a baby girl called Florence! So I settled for Rose Anna instead!

DryIce · 17/05/2018 22:38

Hero. My absolute favourite, but don't think I could in reality.

Hazel, always loved it but husband was having none of it

Milo and Felix also vetoed

klopple · 17/05/2018 22:36

Damien - already have a DC with an angelic sounding name so would seem like we were trying to polarise them into good and evil!
Ariel - damn washing powder...
Xanthe - met a very strange person called this and unfortunately I can't shake the connection
Tobias - love it but it's a significant ex's name

thetriangleisarealinstrument · 17/05/2018 22:34

whyohwhy I had the opposite problem. DH loves the name Aurora and was adamant our daughter should be called that...
I have a speech impediment where I say 'W' instead of 'R' unless I concentrate really hard, so if im angry or tired I will basically be saying 'W'...
Given that our surname also includes loads of Rs it would have been an utter nightmare

BristolGrrl · 17/05/2018 22:32

I have always loved Delilah, but my 'D'H sings the Tom Jones song whenever I mention it (along with the 'She stood there laughing....Hahahaha' and 'Only gone and had his Weetabix' added bits). Angry

Namethatchange · 17/05/2018 22:30

Star for a girl. I absolutely love it and I couldn't find a single person who agreed with me so it was vetoed immediately even as a middle name.

RedPandaMama · 17/05/2018 22:28

We had a nightmare when I first got pregnant with DD as we were picking out potential boy/girl names. My 'dream' names I've always wanted for children were Sophia, Isabella or Katherine for a girl, and Eric or Arthur for a boy. All of those names are in DPs close family so they were immediately vitoed. I also loved some quirky names like Willow and Storm but DP hated those Grin

AlbertaSimmons · 17/05/2018 22:28

Sharon.

MilesHuntsWig · 17/05/2018 22:28

Bellatrix.

WellTidy · 17/05/2018 22:27

Annabelle. Our surname makes the two names together sound like a tongue twister.

Harry. Our surname makes it sound like a pirate shouting.

Maybe I should have married someone with a more acceptable surname?

Dergadgeghead · 17/05/2018 22:25

Ooh, another Malachi here! DH sensibly vetoed.

Also Gillian (love nn Gilly, makes me think of jelly)

DoneDisappeared · 17/05/2018 22:23

Stella

BevBrook · 17/05/2018 22:23

@Inmyownlittlecorner I came on to say Linnet! Why can’t you use it? For me it sounds dreadful in an Essex accent, and because there would be a lifetime of “no not Lynette” but I love it because of Children of Green Knowe.

Whyohwhy65 · 17/05/2018 22:20

Aroura. Dp would never agree to it
I aksobwanted Frankie for a girl. Inhale a close relative with the name though

missmouse101 · 17/05/2018 22:18

Jasper, Iolanthe, Fern.
