Names you love but could never use

Just for fun, what names do you love, but can’t use for whatever reason?

I really love Zelda, after Zelda Fitzgerald, but I feel they’d be teased because of the video game.

Anais is also cute. But I foresee lots of issues with pronounciation, and it kind of looks like anus!

Augustus - loved it for a little boy. But I feel people will forever associate it was Augustus Gloop.

What are yours?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

If DH were on here he'd say Septimus, I threatened divorce though mwahahaha

aldoushuxleyatemymescaline · 18/05/2018 12:13

@olderthanyouthink it's fantastic isn't it. It was roundly vetoed by my partner (the big meanie) along with lots of other beautiful suggestions!

finallychangedmyusername · 18/05/2018 12:06

Caspian, Evander, Ludovic, Anders, Conrad, Jolyon, Lazarus, Rudolph, Matteo, Stefan, Tobias

readyforapummelling · 18/05/2018 12:00

I loved Suki throughout my pregnancy but DP vetoed it. Twat.

olderthanyouthink · 18/05/2018 11:56

Aldous I LOVE Cosima! Don't think DP will go for it though Sad

Thurlow · 18/05/2018 11:24

Hera and Decca. Reserved as future cat names I guess.

I have a girl Alex and I wish I'd been brave enough to either spell it Alix, or to use Alicky - it's a German nickname and I love it!

aldoushuxleyatemymescaline · 18/05/2018 11:20

Isambard (though maybe Sam as a nn not so bad?!)
Jago
Wren
Isolde
Cosima

dingdongdigeridoo · 18/05/2018 11:04

Cinderella, Hepzibah, Merlin, Frampton, Royal, Oserus, Philidelphia, Britannia, Queenie, Patience, Vanslow, Amadine, Kisby, Israel, Methusalah, Providence, Cinamenta, Onisophorus, Rice ... oh my god, I love all of these! I think my bump has some new middle names!

I’m going to add Bessie to my do not use names. I love it, but she might have Yorkshire pudding names forever.

Roman - it's just not 'me'. And wouldn't match any other names I like (classic)
Georgiana - I think it's beautiful but DP hates it
Serena - close family members name
Vivienne - so pretty, but 'Viv' is horrid imo

grannycake · 18/05/2018 10:45

I wanted Barney for DS2 - my DH vetoed but to me he will always be a Barney. DS definitely does not agree

starkid · 18/05/2018 10:39

mellongoose - Why were you not brave enough to use Hazel? it's that crazy a name to use is it? I love it!

I like the name Winona, but alas would be pretty obvious where I heard the name from!
Also Ferdinand, but my OH has firmly put his foot down (and probably for good reason haha)

liquidrevolution · 18/05/2018 07:28

Talliesin
Inigo

SleepingStandingUp · 18/05/2018 01:52

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/05/2018 01:43

Willow, but Theres no way I'd have a willowy child. Grin

thundernlightning · 18/05/2018 01:04

I love Helena but my best friend named her DD Helen so I took it off my list. Didn’t matter though as we had a boy. Really loved Jack, too, but couldn’t sell it to DH!

YoucancallmeVal · 18/05/2018 00:58

missteri love your post! Im (distant) part romany and some of the names you mention have been in my family, plus a Clarence for me!

GlitterBurps · 18/05/2018 00:57

Mine would be:
Girls- Eden, Milly, Lena, Letty or Harriet.
Boys- Raphael, Atticus, Arthur or George.
All were mentioned when I was pregnant but DH hated all of them.

MissTeri · 18/05/2018 00:46

Oooo my name has been mentioned a few times! Interesting.

I love unusual names and some of the ones mentioned I think are wonderful. I think there would have to be a very, very good reason for me not choosing a name I love. My son has an unusual name but with a very normal/common middle name that he can opt to use instead of his first name as he gets older if he decides he hates his first name.

I have some amazing (probably not by MN standards Grin ) names through my family tree - Cinderella, Hepzibah, Merlin, Frampton, Royal, Oserus, Philidelphia, Britannia, Queenie, Patience, Vanslow, Amadine, Kisby, Israel, Methusalah, Providence, Cinamenta, Onisophorus, Rice ... !! The more unusual the name the easier it is for me to trace when doing the family tree. Most of those names are from my Romany side, my mums side (Welsh), are impossible to find because they're all Evan Evans, Thomas Lewis etc - of which there are hundreds Angry

Aylarose · 18/05/2018 00:33

Iolanthe (maybe too unusual)
Sienna
Isabel (already been used by family)
Mia (a bit short?)
Xanthippe (zan-thippy)- because there's a comedy character on 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' with the name)

For a boy:
Bear- because no-one in my family would take the name seriously
Teddy- as above!
Xavier (a bit posh!)

Actually maybe I will use one or more of those names

Thetimehascometo · 18/05/2018 00:22

Oscar- always loved it, age 12 got a dog and called it Oscar. 🙈 much loved dog who is still going at 15 years old 😍
