Arden or Thalia?

30 weeks pregnant with dd2 and me and dh literally can’t agree on a name, he likes Arden and Thalia? We already have Lily-Rose (4). I kind of like Sienna but it seems so popular now days?

Lol, Thewine I was thinking the exact same thing. If you’re not familiar with Glasgow, using the name Arden would be the equivalent to calling your child Peckham or Brixton.

Arden makes me think Arden Grange the dog food, Thalia and Mercedes I don't like.

I'd assume Arden was a boy I'm afraid... Thalia is quite nice, but if spell it as you want it pronounced, ie T v Th. Mercedes is a bit of a statement and doesn't go with your dd's name, which is v English

No it’s not especially American just the names he likes sound better when he pronounces them.

The only Mercedes I've ever known was Spanish. I don't know that it's especially American, is it?

I really don't like it though.

Thanks everyone, Thalia would be pronounced Talia so I guess we could change the spelling.DH just announced he really likes the name Mercedes? He’s American if that counts for anything Hmm

From your options I think Thalia is nicest. But I would like Nathalia even more. Probably related to the fact I think the name Natalie is overdue a comeback

@Marcipex - is that the Antonia forest books about the boarding school? I think the Thalia in that always hates the name and uses Tim instead.

Oooh, I like Arden a lot - very cool and yet quite sophisticated too, somehow.

I like Thalia too but it's a good point that, if she can't say her 'ths' she'll be Failure.

Sienna I quite like and it goes well with Lily-Rose. But I much prefer Arden.

I've actually never met anybody called Arden, Thalia or Sienna - but I do know that Sienna is very popular so I don't know why I don't know any!

Is Arden a boy’s name? Or a surname? I’ve never met one but there’s a reasonably well known Elizabethan play called Aden of Faversham. It’s not credited to but it was very likely written by Shakespeare (in collaboration). It’s about a poor chap that gets murdered by his wife and her lover. So it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice for a baby name, especially not for a girl.

Eden would be a nice alternative perhaps? Thalia and Sienna are fine, not really to my tastes but 1000x better than Arden.

I love Thalia. I like Sienna too. I only know one Sienna, so I don't think it's that popular

Thalia - how do you say it? Tahl-ya, Thale-ya, Tharl-ya.
I'd go with Sienna.

How do you pronounce Thalia?
I thought it was Tal- eye-ah, but I've a series of books about a Thalia, who people think is called Failure , (because she wasn't a boy.)

The one Arden I know is a middle aged man! I prefer Malia to Thalia, think that is one of Barack Obama’s girls. Or Thea is nice but similar. Personally not a fan of Sienna.

Can't stand Arden but I'm from South Warks which is probably why. I don't really like Thalia either (would pronoince it Talia). I would say Sienna matches Lily-Rose in popularity.

Not too keen on Sienna as it sounds like Senna, and Arden, sounds like Harden. So I suppose Talia. I like Clarice (prounounced Clariss), that is what we would have called our boy if he were a girl.

Arden is the name of a council estate in Glasgow. It's not a name I'd choose for my baby.

I have only heard Thalia with a T sound at the beginning.

I have to say I was puzzled by your Op at first as I thought Arden sounded liek a boys name.
Don't like it I'm afraid.

Thalia (or Talia, you don't need the h) is nice, means blossom I think so very nice for a baby at this time of year.
Sienna is nice too.

neither are my naming style, but both sound nice even to me!
