Amelia means no limbs, so I prefer Emilia. I would pronounce them almost the same. Emilia has more nickname potential.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/05/2018 23:54

No. Emilia is prounced with the E. Amelia is pronounced with A. Two different names.
Amelia is much prettier.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/05/2018 23:39

Emilia.

HoratioNightboy · 15/05/2018 22:51

I pronounce them differently too, like Childrenofthesun but with a "poncy diphthong" at the end. So three syllables.

Prefer Emilia, have never liked Amelia.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/05/2018 22:48

Why would they think it's Amelia?

It just sounds like the start of Emily Eh-Mee-LEe-A

Andthatsthat · 15/05/2018 22:44

Emilia, yes, I really like it.

Amelia, no, I really really don’t!

TuTru · 15/05/2018 22:42

I would be saying Em-eeee-lia
And Am-e—lia
But both nice names but not the same name imo xx

Raspber · 15/05/2018 22:39

I think i prefer the Emilia spelling, just a bit unsure about the pronunciation.
However as i think people would assume it's Amelia, i don't know whether just using that would be better?

Emiliana is also nice.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/05/2018 22:38

Emilia is nicer.

hopsalong · 15/05/2018 22:34

Amelia is the more common English name and in my opinion the nicer one. Four syllables.

Emilia requires a poncy diphthong at the end Em-il-ya. If it’s a family name or you’re half Italian or something, then it’s very pretty. Otherwise I think it’s a bit unnecessarily fancy. (Personally I like Emily better than either. But I also prefer Sophie to Sophia, so take this as you will.)

Childrenofthesun · 15/05/2018 22:33

I would pronounce them almost the same bit with a slight emphasis on the E in Emilia, an e sound like egg rather than ee. E-mee-liya.
Amelia I would pronounce like Uh-mee-liya.
Emilia is my preference. It was our second choice for one of our DC.

chezmk1988 · 15/05/2018 22:31

I'd say them the same but I prefer Emilia spelling

AuntieStella · 15/05/2018 22:28

I pronounce them differently

Emilia = Emily-ya
Amelia = A-mee-liya

Which do you actually want?

Chocmallows · 15/05/2018 22:27

I would think Em-ilea as in Emma or Am-ilea as in Amber.

I prefer Amelia.

DramaAlpaca · 15/05/2018 22:24

Emilia for me.

I pronounce them differently, and I prefer the look and sound of Emilia.
