I’ve named Four Kids, here’s my advice on naming your child

Hi, I’m Yohannette (everyone calls me Hanna) and I’ve hated my name for a long time. So I found out I was pregnant with my first two children me and my partner wanted to make sure the names for our expectant twin girls have to be perfect. I just want to say now that there are so many websites that can come up with the weirdest names for twins. While searching we found suggestions for things like Daisy and Maisy, Willow and Elm, and my personal faverioute, Blackpool and Liverpool. I have nothing against these names and I actually called my third girl Maisy, but the fact that you would rhyme it is beyond me. It was these terrible suggestions that made me and my wife realise that we wanted our kids to have names that not only sounded nice but meant something. We searched through diary pages to find memorable places that names weren’t insane, we talked to relatives about their or their parents names, sifting through all this history as well as numerous lists of what would be the “next big thing” in baby names. By using all this different sources we somehow managed to find two names that we love every time we hear them, Stella-Marnie (Star from the Sea) Audrey Thomas. This was perfect because we fell in love with the meaning of the first name and I proposed in front of an Audrey Hepburn film. And Georgia London Thomas, Georgia is the name of my wife’s grandmother, and we met in London.

I hope this hope has helped you in the search to find the perfect name for you new born.
Hanna

Wow I love Stella-Marnie actually.

Naming kids is easy. Try naming kittens with input from 11 and 13 year olds. The conversations lasted weeks and we still got it wrong.

I'd hate to be called Stella-Marnie

Or Georgia London

HappydaysArehere · 12/03/2020 15:39

Sorry, got to say it. Can’t help myself, I feel so sorry for these poor children who have to bear the names sought after by parents who want to feel “different” or akin to so called celebrities. There I’ve said it. Been thinking this for ages.

If you haven't even started your own cat-naming advice thread then you've really no room to complain about lack of recognition. Get on it.

Why just babies? I will just nip upstairs and inform 14 yr old ds that his name is now Bayswater. Pretty swag.

Realistica · 14/05/2018 18:42

Isn't assuming someone is a man just because they have a wife equally as politically incorrect as 'mansplaining'? Shame on you all!

User314 · 14/05/2018 17:38

I did a better job of naming my kids. Gavel.

Fucketynamechanged · 14/05/2018 17:35

Except in some African countries it's quite normal to give a child a name of an attribute. I know a precious, a pardon, a Sunday, a gratitude, and a memory off the top of my head

UpstartCrow · 14/05/2018 17:02

I know brothers called Frank and Ernest, and think their mother should have been stopped..

CheeseTheDay · 14/05/2018 16:48

Thank you for making this post, because while I've had six children (age range of 4-15), my DH and I have struggled to name them.

Finally, with your insights, we can come up with worthwhile names for Thingy, It, You & Double You (they're twins), Hey, and Oi. The children will be delighted!

Many moons ago in hospital having my eldest, there were twins on the ward named Jackson and Carson. Couldn't help thinking they'd be shortened to Jacksie and Carzie.

Emily7708 · 13/05/2018 15:32

My husband is a drummer. He named our twin girls:

Anna 1
Anna 2

Grin

I had an ancestor called Walter, and he had five boys. The first one he called Walter, well, ok, patriarchy, carry on. The second one had some other name, Charles or something. Then the third one was called Walter again, like he'd forgotten that his firstborn was already called Walter.

Or perhaps he was some sort of a narcissist and thought that one Walter wasn't enough? But then why didn't he name 4 and 5 Walter as well? Maybe his wife birthed them in secret and got them down to the church for baptizing before Walter Senior knew what was going on?

Anyway he clearly should have gone with: Walter. NotWalter. Walter. SodItLetsHaveAnotherWalter. TheMissusSaysIfICallThisOneWalterWeWillNeverHaveSexAgainCallingHerBluff.

Clapton Pop
And
Bromsgrove Spritzer

Not sure the place/drink thing is working out.

First one sounds like sporn, second like water sports.

Glad I went with rhea and phillis.

Lois, there is a very famous pub in Swindon called the moonraker which I drive past every morning, hence my comment. Didn't know it was also for someone born in wiltshire!
