We seem to really struggle for girl's names. Took us a week to decide on DD1's name (Harriet).

I recently saw the name Thea and thought it was lovely.

Is it a generally well liked name?

Yes - I have a four year old Arthur who is still mostly ‘arfa’ to his friends. A few have reliably mastered ‘th’ but I think some won’t manage it until they get their adult eye teeth. I don’t mind it at all and it’s very sweet but I wouldn’t have used the name if we lived somewhere where adults’ accents were similar.

Amazing, I was told by a teacher the “th” is the hardest sound for children to pronounce which is why you get the “f”

Ive never met either an adult or child Thea, and I think it's a beautiful name which goes well with Harriet

I love it but would go with Dorothea , Theodora or Althea on the birth certificate.

I like it.
Fulfills all my criteria of not being confusing to spell, nor pronounce; isn't the name of something; isn't particularly 'fashionable' or 'of a time'; it common enough for people to 'know' the name when they hear it, but rare enough for there not to be 2 or 3 in every group she is ever part of. Smile

I had never heard of the name Thea until about 2 years ago and now I know 3 little girls called Thea. It seems to be growing in popularity. I'm not overly keen but again I'm from a part of the country where the 'th' would be pronounced 'f'

I have a Thea and am delighted with our choice. Lots of people have complimented it (although we have had a few people go 'oh. That's... unusual) and we don't know any others. I'm surprised to hear pps say it sounds soft - I think it's quite a strong name but that might be because I first heard it from the TV show Arrow where the character is a total badass...

I have one so I’m biased, love it and have only ever had nice responses to it. She’s an energetic, bonkers, independent whirlwind of a child and I think her name suits her perfectly

I like it; it's in the same category for me as Freya , Sybil,Margaret. If she were my DD I would christen her Dorothy or Dorothea to make it more adaptable and give it substance. To look at and listen to the letters THEA have little interest so I would prefer a longer form.Having ssounded a bit negative about the appearance of the name I would say that to me it conjures a mood of independent blue stocking with interwar hints that I like.
