Thoughts on Bastian for a boy? Not short for Sebastian just Bastian

Where are you from if it makes you think bastard? It doesn't sound anything like that in my accent.

I really like it but DH doesn't sadly as I had considered it for dc2. Makes DH think of a zone in our online game.

Quite normal name here in South Germany and gets shortened to Basti. But you know how that might go down in the playground!

Well, if you're in UK, then Camp Bastion is a very familiar name to a whole generation of the military, their families and those who kept up with the news generally from 2005-2015.

I wouldn't choose it for that reason until a bit more time had passed.

Unless of course you are honouring someone who died in Afghanistan. In which case, go for it with head held high. Because I think it works as a name, and would bring remembrance

There's a French name Bastien which is quite nice said the French way, but Bastian is a no from me.

I don't like it.
It makes me think of Camp Bastion - the former British military base in Helmland province in Afghanistan.
