I'm seriously considering Norah for my baby's name (if it's a girl!)

Does this just make you think of Nora Batty?

I love it, spelled either way.

It's quite popular where I am (US).

It really is quite international, and easy to spell and pronounce. I think it's a name that is appropriate for any age - quite sweet and old ladyish for a baby and child and then very fitting for someone older.

We have a Nora so I’m obviously biased:-) We chose it because we wanted something short that worked across a number of languages which it does!. Also, unlike most people on MN, it appears, we deliberately chose short names that wouldn’t easily allow for nick names

I have two friends in the US who don’t know each other, both had baby girls in the last year and both called them Nora! Apparently it’s very popular there...am guessing they won’t have the last of the summer wine connection!

I rather like it. It makes me think of the wonderful Nora Ephron, and of the sweet CBeebies cartoon Nelly and Nora.

Not a fan of it as a stand alone name, a bit too granny-ish imo, could date very quickly and doesn't give much freedom for derivatives if the child doesn't suit the name. Much prefer it as a nickname for Alianora or Elanora/Eleanora as these sound more pretty, elegant and as though they will age better. They allow for other nn options too, such as Allie, Alia, Elle or Ellie. Just my opinion though.

I was watching this yesterday! I like a few of the names - Thora Hird’s character is called Edie, and there’s an Ivy and a Pearl, all quite trendy now! I like Norah with the ‘h’, lovely choice.

Not keen on Compo though Grin
