Pressure from In Laws

I gave birth to a lovely little chap a few days ago, my third child.
I had picked a few names I liked but have had enormous family pressure from my in laws to stick with a good strong name stemming from their family and profession.

Would you use a name if it went against years of family tradition?

Is Milo so bad?

They're pushing for Arthur or Alexander and they feel like such big and old names for such a small and new little boy.

Fuck em - it's out there now Grin

goose1964 · 27/04/2018 14:25

I'm not too keen on Milo, but it's not my baby . It's not their baby either.DH did not like DGS4's name but now he could not be anything else. They'll come round

Louis is nice. Just a thought.

mimibunz · 27/04/2018 11:44

What do you mean the GMIL won’t let you tell anyone? Remind her she’s not the flipping Queen.

Lisette40 · 27/04/2018 11:42

Or Fil's uncle I should say. Nice name Louis.

Lisette40 · 27/04/2018 11:41

Call child after GFIL's favourite uncle and get the name out there. All should calm down. Sit on sofa in trackies and enjoy newborn cuddles.

NeverEvenBeenToCambridge · 27/04/2018 10:03

WIBU to go behind their backs, call him Derek and just tell everyone now? CFs the lot of them Biscuit for GMIL

Still haven't been allowed to make the 'grand announcement' I'm being forced into, despite all this pressure from the in laws - FIL hasn't bothered coming to meet our new little one yet and wants to hear the name first hand rather than on the official FB announcement Hmm

Miles(Milo) would have fitted the bill.

Oysterbabe · 26/04/2018 11:46

I bet they asked for cash with a poem in the invite too.

redshoeblueshoe · 26/04/2018 11:41

Now I hear your DH Is going to be BIL's best man.
Is this going to be a child free wedding?
Do you want to go ?
I bet she wants your Dd in the photos, but maybe not you.

IHateToCashew · 26/04/2018 09:49

I'd tell 'em to fark off Grin

Op surely you knew what you were marrying into before you committed to this relationship? You are three kids in... are the nice clothes and fancy dinners getting boring?

Did you forget the old mn favourite? When people tell you who they are... listen. You should have seen this coming but now it’s all suddenly a problem.

Don’t they have any redeeming features? Would you prefer they were nc and never seen your children?

What’s in a name, Rose?

NeverEvenBeenToCambridge · 26/04/2018 08:15

It was on my short list but was vetoed pretty early on.
I was pushed to go for Albert but having shown dear grand mother in law some google images from our local piercing shop they've finally let that go..

If they want traditional, how about 'Charming'?

NeverEvenBeenToCambridge · 26/04/2018 08:08

Yes we have decided on a name now, we've made some compromise but I feel it a good strong name but now GMIL won't let me tell anyone!!
She wants me to make a very formal announcement but wait for anticipation to build you see. I just want to get into bed for newborn snuggles and watch the crown Hmm

Have you decided yet?

userabcname · 26/04/2018 06:59

He is your baby! I love the name Milo - go for it!

CPtart · 26/04/2018 06:50

We went against several generations of tradition and picked a different name for our DS. Didn't include it at all. It was never mentioned. Pick what you want, why would they even have a say?

GraceLeeper · 26/04/2018 06:41

Never heard a name like that! But I like it! It's so cool :)

Prestonsflowers · 26/04/2018 00:31

I think Donald Balonz Trump would be a lovely name or
Trump Donald Balonz or
Balonz Trump Donald
All much better than Jerry

redshoeblueshoe · 26/04/2018 00:23

I think you should tell DGMIL to FOTTFSOFF
How about Shane ?

Buntysoven · 26/04/2018 00:07

bluebell34567 · 25/04/2018 23:20
