Clara?

Ok so after thinking we were settled on our girl name (Cora), we came up with another name that we like. Would like your opinions on the name Clara. We were thinking of maybe Clara Rose (we are massive Doctor Who geeks). :)

Another question - Clara or Cora? :)

Clara rose is beautiful 😍

KadabrasSpoon · 28/04/2018 08:20

I prefer Clara but it's mega popular for babies around here - SE
That might not bother you though.

AlyTab · 28/04/2018 08:18

Would be pronounced Clah-ra. It wouldn't just be because of the tv show to be clear, it just made us realise how much we like the name as we hadn't thought of it until we started rewatching the series together :)

We were also thinking of these combinations.

Clara Paige

Clara Alexis (My name is Alexis)

Clara Hailey (Hailey was one of our original choices. And it's going to be spelled this way.)

Clara Hallie/Halley (after Halley's comet)

Clearly we are still very undecided on the matter. We have our boy name sorted it was easy - Leo. (I know we have quite a few space related names but my fiance is really into astronomy, as am I :) )

I quite like Clara. Cara's nicer though. Or Carla?

I really don't like Cora though.

babydreamer1 · 28/04/2018 06:58

Absolutely love Clara.

I think Rose is too over used as a middle name though, and I wouldn't link my dd's name to a TV show.

AliciaMayEmory · 28/04/2018 06:56

Are you pronouncing it as Claire-a or Clah- ra? I know one of both. I prefer the Claire-a pronunciation, but I'm not sure why! I also love the name Cora and as pp mentioned Cara is also lovely. You can't go wrong with any of your choices, really. ☺

SemperIdem · 28/04/2018 06:51

Clara and Cora are both nice names, reading them together makes me think of an Upstairs Downstairs scenario though. Probably just me!

Fifthtimelucky · 28/04/2018 06:46

Definitely prefer Clara. It reminds me of the Nutcracker, Dr Who, Heidi, Porgy & Bess and Clara Schumann.

Carouselfish · 28/04/2018 00:19

When I had my DD, I went Clara to Cara to Carmen.
I think the spelling Claire is nicer than Clare.

redmini4 · 27/04/2018 22:21

Clara Rose is lovely, prefer it to Cora

AlyTab · 27/04/2018 22:15

Weirdly I do like Oswin too. Bit on the nose though and I have been know to like unisex names that lean more towards the masculine side for girls, like Remy for instance. Doesn't really bother me though, it's our child after all and it's not like we're naming our baby "Blueberry Unicorn". Honest to goodness we know someone who named their child that. Her nn is Blue though. Very off topic there 😆😊

Much prefer Clara to Cora

Glumglowworm · 25/04/2018 16:07

Doctor who fan here too! Although massive Amy pond fan so Amelia would be my whovian name of choice

I like Clara Rose too though

Sunnymeg · 25/04/2018 15:08

The original English prounounciation of Clara is the soft Clare with an a on the end. However the European prounounciation of the name with a hard Cl sound is far more popular these days. Friends of mine use the English prounounciation for their daughter , but everyone else gets in wrong.

DramaAlpaca · 25/04/2018 14:28

Clara is so much nicer than Cora. It's getting popular though.

MamTDM · 25/04/2018 14:27

The 'Cl' sound in Clara feels a bit awkward to me. What about Cara?

LoveInTokyo · 25/04/2018 14:17

Love Clara.

TwittleBee · 25/04/2018 12:41

Love Clara!

Also love Clary. Both names were my top choices for a DD but DH isn't a fan

TinoTheArtisticMouse · 25/04/2018 12:33

I have a Clara - we only get positive comments, and we've never regretted our choice.
Although it did have a rise in popularity in 2015, it has since waned (the dr who effect I guess); I've only met one Klara since having dd and nursery said she's the first one that they've ever had (over 10 years open).

PandaCat · 25/04/2018 07:11

The name is lovely though, especially love it paired with Rose. Big Doctor Who fan here too.

AlyTab · 25/04/2018 04:12

Love the fellow Doctor Who fans! @BurpeesAreTheWorkOfTheDevil I love it. May I ask the names of your children?

So far Clara is looking pretty good! :)

Prefer Clara to Cora but prefer Cara to both.

BurpeesAreTheWorkOfTheDevil · 24/04/2018 16:17
