What does everyone think of Rex for a boys name??
I absolutely LOVE it but partner says it's a dogs name...
I get that it traditionally is(was!) a dogs name but it's coming back and I think it's super cool Grin

Its a dogs name

Carouselfish · 25/04/2018 01:37

I love it and I wish people would stop using it in case it gets in the top 100.
Rex Harrison - Old world glamour, saucy devil, fighter pilot moustache. Read his autobio.

Buntysoven · 24/04/2018 22:49

There are a lot of names I dislike more...Arthur for one and that's the name of next door's dog!

thegreylady · 24/04/2018 19:29

Love Rex and know one gorgeous squidgy baby with the name.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/04/2018 19:22

T-Rex

IrnBruTortie · 24/04/2018 18:57

Is your surname Fairbrother? Will you call your next son Toby?*

In all seriousness, it’s not to my taste, but probably my favourite names aren’t to yours, and I wouldn’t raise an eyebrow at it to be honest. Go for it if you like it.

*sorry, but Ambridge is the only place I’ve heard that name irl

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/04/2018 18:54

I met a Rex it didn't seem to suit him. I'm not a fan it does remind me of a dogs name tbh

summerlovingliz · 24/04/2018 18:20

Sorry, I'm with your partner, not keen

Saraswati · 24/04/2018 18:09

It's my boys choice, love it! Cool for a kid and strong for a man, easy to spell and unusual but not weird so meets all my criteria! We have a long surname and my dd has a single syllable name (Pearl) so I feel like they go together well.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/04/2018 12:53

💙 Rex

mamajuji · 24/04/2018 12:03

My son is Rex! Hubby and I decided on it pretty early on. Everyone we told while still pregnant hated it and hoped we'd have a girl, but now he's born obviously everyone loves him! The name suits him. Only real con is I simply HAVE to buy anything dinosaur related for him so he's definitely going to hate dinosaurs by the time he's 5.

Rex Harrison. Great name.

RoundaboutSnail · 24/04/2018 11:44

I think it's a great name. I don't know of any humans or dogs called Rex!

TatianaLarina · 24/04/2018 11:40

I think it’s cool OP, due a revival.

Dogs don’t tend to be called Rex these days, more likely Gizmo or Oscar.

FizzyGreenWater · 24/04/2018 11:02

Sorry I would think either dog, or ageing 70s style Lothario in a cravat.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 24/04/2018 10:49

OP Rex is lovely. Many years ago when people didn't call their pets human names Rex was used for dogs but not so much now.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 24/04/2018 10:47

Oscar and Harry are dogs names but there's plenty of them around

You mean Oscar and Harry are boys names that people have chosen for their dogs surely?

Juells · 24/04/2018 09:59

I like it, but it's a bit like the American habit of naming children Earl or Prince, as if we'll think the child actually is a prince or an earl. 😂

LivingInTheSeventies · 24/04/2018 09:54

red I think where I live it was a popular name about 60+ years ago. As I said, I meet lots and people often tell me it was their dad’s name.

stellinaa · 24/04/2018 09:53

Sorry but I think its an awful name, I don't think it would suit an adult at all and very much leans itself to being made fun of in school (can imagine lots of T-Rex jokes for example). Using Rex as a nickname/middle name would be fine imo but please not as an official first name

RedDwarves · 24/04/2018 09:51

Was it ever "in" to begin with to be having a comeback? It was never particularly popular, was it?

I'm not a fan. It just makes me think of t-rexs.

Luckingfovely · 24/04/2018 09:49

All dogs seemed to be called human names now, I think the cross over has blurred!

Rex is fab for dog or boy!

LivingInTheSeventies · 24/04/2018 09:48

I have a Rex. He’s older and it seems perfect for him. I’ve met a few older men named Rex (not in UK).

jellycat1 · 24/04/2018 09:45

Love it.

Dreamingofkfc · 24/04/2018 09:45

This is my son's choice for the baby. I do like it, just not sure I love it. Another choice is Marley, and that defo reminds me of a dog, even though there are plenty of Marley's around
