Eve Lin or Ever Lin?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
deptfordgirl · 25/04/2018 09:27

Ev-lin or Eve-lin.

pipilangstrumpf · 25/04/2018 07:46

Neither, I'd say Eev-lin.

PandaCat · 25/04/2018 07:17

We have a 2 month old Evelyn, we mostly pronounce it Eh-vuh-lyn like RockinRobin

JennyOnAPlate · 24/04/2018 19:23

The Evelyn I know pronounces it Ever Lyn

RockinRobinTweets · 24/04/2018 19:16

Eh vuh Lyn but the uh in vuh isn’t as pronounced

DairyisClosed · 24/04/2018 19:13

Ev/lin for a girl
Eev/lin for a boy

onemorecakeplease · 24/04/2018 19:12

It’s Ev-lin here in N Scotland

Glumglowworm · 24/04/2018 19:09

The one I know is pronounced Ev-lin so that would be my first assumption

MrsMotherHen · 24/04/2018 18:34

Its a great name i pronounce my DDs as ever lin spelt Evelyn.

Thistles24 · 24/04/2018 18:32

I had only ever heard it as "Ehv-Lin" until I started a new job a couple of years ago and there are 2 who are both "Eve-Lin".

Dixiestampsagain · 24/04/2018 00:24

Eve- Lyn. I don’t like it as ever-lyn (evva- Lyn!)

Buxbaum · 23/04/2018 23:24

Where are people getting the 'r' from to make it Ever-lin?

They have non-rhotic accents and don't pronounce 'r' unless it's followed by a vowel.

Sophronia · 23/04/2018 22:49

Ev-uh-lin

WildwestWind · 23/04/2018 22:47

Eve Lin not Eva Lin

WildwestWind · 23/04/2018 22:46

Friends of ours called their second daughter Alice Evalyn - spelt that way but pronounced Eva Lin.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/04/2018 22:46

Don’t sweat it about others threads same topic
If we stuck to keep it original.we’ve been there, done that There’d be no mn threads
No one else adheres to no previously done thread,if they did there’d be no

Jagzorx · 23/04/2018 22:44

Eveh-Lin

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2018 22:43

Ev-lyn

Ceebs85 · 23/04/2018 22:43

Eve-lyn. It's my mums name. She sometimes gets people mis-pronouncing but just corrects them

NotTakenUsername · 23/04/2018 22:42

Grin it’s a common discussion but no definitive answer I’m afraid!

You need to decide if you can be arsed correct the half of society who will pronounce it the ‘wrong’ way!

I’d go for Fiona or something. One spelling, one pronunciation... boom! Done! Grin

NooNooHead1981 · 23/04/2018 22:42

I always thought that Evelyn Glennie was pronounced 'Eve-lin' but now I'm thinking about it more, I'm wondering whether it is the person whose name it is and their personal preference... but I would always pronounce it 'Eve-lin' - I think 'Ev-lin' doesn't quite sound right, to my ear.

dotdotdotmustdash · 23/04/2018 22:41

Eve-Lin.

Where are people getting the 'r' from to make it Ever-lin?

DamsonOnThisDress · 23/04/2018 22:41

A few Evelyns in my family.

Always pronounced as Ev-lin.

Never heard it pronounced with an r.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 23/04/2018 22:41

There’s no r in Evelyn, can’t fathom the ever-lin pronunciation?
Clearly an accent thing
I have heard people say Ev but it’s not Adam & Ev
I’d say Eve-Linn

Really depends how you pronounce it,and how you want others to pronounce it

FireplaceLover · 23/04/2018 22:39

It’s a nice name, OP. How would you prefer it to be pronounced?
